Young Sheldon‘s season 6 premiere finally admits the problem with how Georgie Cooper’s (Montana Jordan) story has been handled. “Four Hundred Cartons of Undeclared Cigarettes and a Niblingo” picks up after the season 5 cliffhanger finale left Meemaw (Annie Potts) and the eldest Cooper kid in jail. While the pair is sprung prison by George (Lance Barber) and Dale (Craig T. Nelson), Georgie’s predicament continues as he navigates his complicated relationship with Mandy (Emily Osment) in light of their accidental pregnancy.
Young Sheldon season 5 was a difficult year for the Coopers. George almost had an affair with Brenda (Melissa Peterman), while Mary harbored secret feelings for her new workmate, Youth Pastor Rob (Dan Byrd). Missy (Raegan Revord) dealt with peer pressure at school, while Sheldon (Iain Armitage) took his first engineering class and reunited with Paige (McKenna Grace). No one has had a more challenging year than Georgie, however, after he found out that he accidentally got his girlfriend pregnant.
After tackling Georgie’s current narrative, Young Sheldon finally admitted to one big problem about how it has been handled after the premiere acknowledged that Mandy also has a hand in this whole situation. Ever since The Big Bang Theory prequel introduced this pregnancy plot line, Georgie has been solely blamed for it, but in the Young Sheldon season 6 premiere, Missy points out that his now-former girlfriend should also be accountable because their relationship was consensual. Granted that the eldest Cooper kid lied about his true age, it’s unfair that he has been vilified for what happened when she was also actively involved in their affair. Georgie is remorseful about his mistakes, and he’s committed to making up for them by being as helpful as he can to Mandy. Yet, his efforts are barely appreciated.
