‘The Good Doctor’ Are Raging Over “Melendaire”
Season 3 of The Good Doctor is officially coming to a close, and the first half of the finale did not disappoint.
On Monday, fans were left on the edge of their seats after the St. Bonaventure staff was rocked by a massive earthquake. By the end of episode 19, entitled “Hurt,” viewers were particularly focused on Dr. Neil Melendez, whose fate was left uncertain. After a ceiling structure fell and left the surgeon with an abdominal bruise, he chose to perform an on-site back surgery instead of seeking medical treatment for himself.
Though the emergency procedure was a success, Melendez threw up and fainted in front of Dr. Claire Browne only seconds before the hit ABC show ended. Without skipping a beat, “Melendaire”(as the internet calls the potential couple) shippers went off on social media, demanding that Melendez survive his injury … or else.”If they kill off Melendez I’m done,” one fan tweeted. “MELENDEZ HAS TO SURVIVE, MELENDAIRE WAS JUST ABOUT TO HAPPEN,” another added. “If Melendez dies omg I will cry … Claire has lost too many people already,” a different fan wrote on Instagram.
Fan drama aside, it’s worth noting that actor Nicholas Gonzalez, who plays the attending cardiothoracic surgeon, tweeted at a concerned Good Doctor viewer that he was “good,” though it’s not clear if he meant himself or his character.
Looks like we’ll just have to wait for part two of the season finale to learn the fate of Melendez. What we do know is that the promo for the episode, entitled “I Love You,” promises a “shocking ending” — in other words, brace yourselves.
