Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) is heading out on his first official date in The Good DoctorSeason 3 premiere. (And no, that impromptu road trip with Lea (Paige Spara) doesn’t count because Shaun had no idea it was a day when they left for the day.)
At the end of last season, Shaun asked out Carly (Jasika Nicole) from the pathology department out for dinner. She enthusiastically said yes, and Monday’s premiere episode will reveal how their first outing actually went. Eager to see Shaun make a good impression, TV Guide asked The Good Doctor cast what advice they’ve given him when we visited the set earlier this month.

The universal decree: Shaun should relax, although, knowing Shaun as we do, that’ll be difficult for him. Others recommended flowers and jokes, while Spara advised him to go ahead and lean in for that all-important kiss.
Even Highmore weighed in on what his character should do, but warned everyone that the premiere episode is labeled, “Disaster,” so maybe we shouldn’t get our hopes up so high that Shaun can turn into Casanova, no matter how much research he does. Still, we have our fingers crossed that he and Carly work out.
