The Good Doctor season three ended with the brutal death of Dr Neil Melendez (played by Nicholas Gonzalez). However, some viewers might be wondering what happened to his ex-girlfriend Jessica Preston (Beau Garrett) and why the actor decided to leave the show.
What happened to Jessica Preston on The Good Doctor?
Jessica Preston was first introduced in the season one pilot as the in-house attorney at the hospital.
Viewers loved her character who was constantly fighting against the stereotype of being the granddaughter of the hospital’s founder.
As fans will also recall, she was very close friends with Dr Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) and it was implied she knew his late daughter well.
Perhaps her biggest storyline on the show, however, was linked to Melendez
The pair were engaged before she ended the relationship at the end of season one.
This came after Melendez made it clear he wanted to start a family while Jessica did not.
As viewers liked her character, many were shocked when she didn’t return for another series.
Back in 2018, TV Line broke the news actor Garrett would not be appearing in the second season just weeks before it aired.
Her last appearance was therefore at the end of season one, with viewers not finding out what happened to her.
Taking to Reddit, one fan speculated about the reason her character might have left the show.
User neigh102 wrote: “I think she might have left because working in the same hospital as her ex-fiance was too weird.
“But I don’t know. I don’t recall her absence ever being explained.”
However, neither the actor herself nor the creators ever revealed an exact reason for leaving the show.
Instead, it seemed Jessica’s storyline on the show had just reached its conclusion.
Garrett is a well-known actor who has also starred as Captain Raye in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Gem in Tron: Legacy.
Since appearing on The Good Doctor, actor Garrett has gone on to star in a number of other shows.
This includes playing Phoebe in the show Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce from 2014 until 2018.
She also appeared in an episode of The Rookie as Denise and starred in TV film Capsized: Blood in the Water.
Next viewers will be able to see her in the upcoming Netflix show Firefly Lane.
She will play Cloud in the 2020 series based on the novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah.
