Perfect for Money Heist fans.
The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore breaks into the Bank of Spain in The Vault, which is now available to watch on Netflix in the UK.
The 2021 thriller sees Highmore playing a 21-year-old engineering genius who sets his mind on breaking a seemingly unbreakable safe in order to retrieve a legendary lost treasure.
The movie also stars Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham and X-Men star Famke Janssen.
They are joined by Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Sam Riley (Maleficient) and Spanish stars Luis Tosar (Sky High) and José Coronado (The Snow Girl).
The Vault starts by introducing a coveted treasure that was sunk in the Atlantic in 1645 during the battles between Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada.
Over three centuries later, it was found by a group of deep-diving salvagers led by Walter (Cunningham), but Spanish customs agents seized it, as it was exhumed from their waters.
Determined to get it back, Walter puts together a team to break into the Bank of Spain, including a young and talented engineer named Thom (Highmore).
Craving a challenge, Thom throws his brilliant future out of the window to prove he can achieve the impossible without getting caught.
In order to get past all the obstacles, including the bank’s infallible security chief Gustavo (Coronado), the band picks the perfect date — the day of Spain’s World Cup Final, when everyone is distracted and looking elsewhere.
The movie is directed by Jaume Balagueró (co-director of horror movie hit REC), and written by Rowan Athale, Michel Gaztambide, Borja Glez Santaolalla, Andres Koppel and Rafa Martínez.
The Vault is one of Highmore’s latest movies, alongside 2023’s animated feature The Canterville Ghost, in which he voiced the Duke of Cheshire.
The actor is most widely known for his role as Dr Shaun Murphy in the hit ABC medical drama The Good Doctor, which came to an end in May this year after seven seasons.
