The Good Doctor will come to an end with its upcoming season 7.
The medical drama, which stars Freddie Highmore, 31, as Dr. Shaun Murphy and is a a co-production of Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature, will conclude with the new season, which is set to premiere on February 20.
‘Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life,’ Highmore shared in a statement, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
‘I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented – and lovely – cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible,’ he went on.
‘Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver… tequila, stat!’
Highmore also serves as an executive producer on the long-running show.
Series executive producers and showrunners David Shore and Liz Feldman also released a statement along with executive producer Erin Gunn.

Along with Highmore, the current cast of the series includes Chuku Modu, Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann, Richard Schiff Christina Chang, Paige Spara, Bria Samoné Henderson, and Noah Galvin.
The Good Doctor premiered on ABC in 2017 and follows Highmore’s Dr. Shaun Murphy – an autistic-with-savant-syndrome surgeon working at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.
It was adapted from a Korean hit and was developed by David Shore.
Dr. Shaun Murphy falls in love with his next-door neighbor, Lea (played by Paige Spara).
The pair get engaged in Season 5 and, and in the Season 6 finale, she gives birth to their son, Steven.
The series has never been nominated for an Emmy, however Highmore was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2018 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Drama.
Last season the show averaged 6.2 million viewers on Monday nights, as it continued being a consistent performer for the network.
