At the helm of the Gaffney’s ship is S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, a the tough-as-nails Chief of Patient and Medical Services at Gaffney Medical. Goodwin got to her position of power thanks to years of tireless work within hospitals. Goodwin was the former ED Charge Nurse but now mainly handles the grueling business and media side of hospital administration. Her position often forces her to reconcile between what is legally correct and what is the ethical to approach patient diagnoses. Because of her previous experience, Sharon is extremely empathetic and protective of her fellow physicians.
Oliver Platt as Chief of Psychiatry Dr. Daniel
While many medical dramas focus solely on the surgical side of hospital operations, Chicago Med also explores the mental health side of hospital life. Oliver Platt plays Dr. Daniel Charles, the Chief of Psychiatry at Gaffney Medical, and his performance never disappoints. Dr. Charles consistently challenges those who call themselves or other patients “crazy,” instead compelling others to understand that with enough understanding, a solution is always possible, regardless of the mental health issue. The world needs more physicians like Dr. Charles.
Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Campbell, RN
Marlyne Barrett plays the loveable E.R. nurse Maggie Campbell on Chicago Med. The doting yet no-nonsense ED Charge Nurse of Gaffney Medical is a miracle to the Windy City. Maggie has become a Chi-Hard fan favorite as the eyes, ears, and heart of Gaffney’s ED. Maggie is endlessly dedicated to her position and loyal to all the physicians around her. Even when the situation becomes chaotic, which they tend to do, Maggie can always be trusted to hold down the fort.
Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher, OBGYN
Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer, ED Chief
Steven Weber plays Dr. Dean Archer, the Chief of the ED at Gaffney Medical. Archer is a no-nonsense physician with a complicated past of PTSD due to his time in the Navy. Archer’s brash attitude and refusal to compromise led him to be a headache for several of his colleagues during his introduction in Season 6 of Chicago Med, but over time, he’s chilled out around his coworkers. Nowadays, Archer has many friends around the ED and knows when to tuck his dated opinions away.
Devin Kawaoka as Resident Dr. Kai Tanaka-Reed
Kai Tanaka-Reed, played by Devin Kawaoka, is a first-year surgical resident who immediately set his sights on establishing himself at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center during his introduction in Season 8. Dr. Tanaka-Reed is abrasive and opinionated, often causing him to butt heads with his supervisors. Over time, Dr. Tanaka-Reed has started to learn to rely on his superiors and not let perfectionism cloud his ability to empathize with patients.
Lilah Richcreek Estrada as Psychiatry Resident Dr. Nellie Cuevas
Dr. Charles met his new assistant in the Season 8 premiere with the introduction of Dr. Nellie Cuevas, played by Lilah Richcreek Estrada. While Dr. Charles is fairly old school in his therapy style, Dr. Cuevas represents the new wave in mental health treatment. While Dr. Charles and Dr. Cuevas often disagree about how to treat patients, Nellie truly wants to improve as a physician with each lesson learned.
Brennan Brown as Chief of Neurosurgery Dr. Sam Abrams
A Chicago Med O.G. is Brennan Brown as Gaffney’s Head of Neurosurgery and resident badass, Dr. Sam Abrams. A fan favorite since Season 1 thanks to his barbed wit, sarcastic demeanor, and unfaltering skill in the operating room, even the most seasoned Gaffney doctors come to Abrams when the going gets tough. Abrams may give his younger colleagues a tough time, but his passion for patients makes him one of the hospital’s most vital assets.
Luke Mitchell as ED Dr. Mitch Ripley
Luke Mitchell’s Dr. Mitch Ripley made his way to Gaffney in Season 9 of Chicago Med. Boasting a dark and stormy past paired with a charming and ruggedly handsome disposition, Ripley quickly solidified himself as Med’s renegade physician, willing to jump through whatever bureaucratic hurdles he can to help patients get the care they need. Ripley is as charming as he is dedicated, a dynamite combo in the Windy City hospital.
Sarah Ramos as E.D. Dr. Caitlin Lenox
Season 10 of Chicago Med welcomes a few new characters into the fold, including Parenthood star Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox. The Gaffney newbie is set to shake things up in the Emergency Department after bumping shoulders with Archer.
“Everyone is on their A-game, and I think I fit right in,” Ramos said in the first look preview of the One Chicago premieres.
Darren Barnet as Dr. Frost
Joining Ramos as a series regular in Med Season 10 is Darren Barnet as Dr. Frost, a new physician at Gaffney. While fans have yet to peel back the layers of the charming young doctor, Barnett is an exciting addition to the team.
“I am so excited to be here, to be part of the team,” Barnett said in a One Chicago first look.
