After seven seasons of winning our hearts, The Good Doctor is finally coming to an end. Keep reading for our top predictions for the final season of ABC’s hit medical drama.
In the that time we’ve come to know Dr. Shaun Murphy, he’s come a long way. Despite the frosty reception he received during his early days at San Jose St. Bonaventure and his initial challenges at navigating both professional and personal relationships, Shaun has carved out a life for himself while becoming one of the hospital’s MVPs during his time there. In addition to proving himself an invaluable member of St. Bonaventure’s surgical team, Dr. Murphy has forged powerful friendships, married the love of his life, and most recently, become a father to baby Steve.

Now that The Good Doctor final season is upon us, fans are expressing their gratitude for seven years of karaoke, chocolate chip pancakes, and rooting for their favorite neurotypical doctor. Here are a few predictions for what might happen during the show’s final season as our favorite wholesome medical drama comes to an end.

Park, Morgan and Shaun may start to move on from St. Bonaventure

As a new round of residents take over, it could set the stage for the old guard to move on with their careers and go their separate ways. As reported by TVLine, The Good Doctor fans will get to meet two new recruits in Season 7, Episode 2. Wavyy Jonez (who is best known for starring as Biggie in Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.) will play third-year resident Dominick “Dom” Hubank, a former football player and “gentle giant” with a sensitivity to the sight of blood. His a singular goal is to become a much-needed family doctor in his underserved community.

The second new doc to join the St. Bonaventure staff will be played by autistic actor Kayla Cromer, who appears as Dom’s fellow third-year resident and Taylor Swift superfan Charlene “Charlie” Lukaitis, who has looked up to Shaun ever since his Season 1 airport heroism went viral. As these two join the hospital’s surgical team, we may see doctors like Park (Will Yun Lee), Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann), and Murphy begin moving on to new things.

Shaun will realize how far he’s come

As an autistic young doctor who idolizes Shaun, it’s probably safe to say that Charlie will be looking to the more experienced surgeon for guidance about navigating the medical field from a neurodivergent perspective. Just as Shaun has turned to Glassman (Richard Schiff) for personal and professional guidance frequently through the years, it’s easy to imagine the new dad stepping into a similar mentorship role for Dr. Lukaitis.

The Good Doctor Season 7: Release Date, Cast Changes, Trailer & Everything We Know

While Shaun may be eager to share many of the things he has experienced and learned during his time at St. Bonaventure, working with Charlie may also give him a deeper level of insight into his own experiences and relationships as he reflects on some of the challenges he has overcome during his career. And since Charlie is a big time Swiftie, there’s also a good chance we’ll get to see the pair bond over Taylor Swift karaoke at some point.

Shaun will save Morgan’s daughter’s life

One thing we know for sure about The Good Doctor ending based on the Season 7 trailer is that Morgan’s daughter Eden will face a serious threat to her health. A clip from the trailer shows Dr. Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) giving the bad news that Eden is in heart failure and needs a new aortic valve. Despite Lim’s suggestion that Shaun might not want to take this case as a new father himself, he will insist on joining the surgery. And as has been the case in the past, it will be Shaun’s persistence that ultimately saves the patient’s life.

The Good Doctor Season 6 cast additions: Meet the 2 new actors joining ABC medical-drama series

Asher and Jerome could tie the knot

Dr. Asher Wolke (Noah Galvin) and his boyfriend Jerome Martel (Giacomo Baessato) had a rough go in Season 6 as they navigated Jerome’s revelation that he has been HIV positive for years. But as one of the most wholesome — and adorable — couples on the drama, Jasher deserves a chance at happiness ahead of The Good Doctor ending. A Jasher wedding would make an uplifting story for the final season, while giving fans of the show a chance to heal from some of the trauma of Shaun and Lea’s wedding afterparty.
