The Rookie fans vow to ‘stop watching’ as key star’s death teased in finale cliffhanger

ABC viewers have threatened to switch off The Rookie for good after Thorsen’s fate was left unknown during the dramatic season five finale.

On Tuesday, ABC’s hit crime drama The Rookie came to a gripping conclusion with its major season five finale.

Viewers were left on the edge of their seats as the officers were tormented by a masked criminal, who launched an attack on the team.

The episode Under Siege kicked off with a nail-biter as Aaron Thorsen (played by Tru Valentino) and Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) were distracted by a noise down an alley.

After they decided to split, the masked criminal snuck up on Thorsen and attacked him.

As Juarez ran to her friend, the gunman shot Thorsen in the back and she was then struck by two other accomplices.

As they were both rushed to the hospital, Juarez was able to relay key information to John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) before losing consciousness again.

Unlike their usual cases, this episode didn’t end with a satisfying conclusion as the skilled officers weren’t able to identify the man responsible.

Instead, Thorsen was rushed in for life-saving surgery and seemingly pulled through but as he was in recovery with Juarez by his side, the beloved officer flatlined.

As the episode ended with Thorsen’s potential death, fans vowed to never watch The Rookie again.

Taking to Twitter with fury, @antisociaalclub stated: “If Aaron does die I might stop watching The Rookie fr fr cause to do that after Jackson is cruel.”

@chensfilmsz tweeted: “NAH THAT CLIFFHANGER WAS NOT IT WHO WAS THAT MAN???”

A third viewer @DinosaurTrainer tweeted: “What was that, @therookie? I hate cliffhangers!”

As @NutCase_ shared: “Aaron Thorsen is not allowed to die. no. bad writers #TheRookie.”

@stan_mccutcheon warned: “I swear Aaron better be alive, especially after Jackson a couple of seasons ago.”

While @Riss_Willett remarked: “I didn’t like that cliffhanger, don’t they dare take Aaron from me.” (sic)

Throughout the episode, the rest of the team were also victims of the masked criminal as Nolan and Bailey Nunes (Jenna Dewan) were also attacked in their home.

Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) and James Murray (Arjay Smith) spotted the perpetrator on their baby monitor.

When they raced to the room Leah was gone, they ran outside to see the attacker speed off and eventually found their daughter unharmed in bushes.
