‘The Rookie’ Fans Will Be Ecstatic About the Show’s Season 7 Update
We now know when the ABC drama is officially coming back for the new season.
It’s time to head back to LAPD Mid-Wilshire, because The Rookie is returning sooner than we expected!
The hit ABC drama has been busy working on season 7, and fans were disappointed when they learned the show wouldn’t be airing during the fall 2024 season. Well, in a new post uploaded on Instagram, viewers got the ultimate surprise from none other than The Rookie cast themselves. As Nathan Fillion began a clip featuring Lisseth Chavez, Eric Winter, Melissa O’Neil, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Mekia Cox and Shawn Ashmore, he revealed The Rookie season 7 will return with new episodes starting January 7, 2025 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
“The fact is … we’re back,” Nathan told the camera in the snippet posted on November 11. “Season 7! Woohoo!”
Given how The Rookie fans have been waiting in suspense for new episodes, it’s only right they were ecstatic over this surprise about what’s to come for season 7.
“Mark your calendars, people! 🙌🏼,” one person wrote. “THE NECESSITY TO START OUT THE YEAR! 💗,” another exclaimed. “Omgggg keep the seasons coming please!! 😭😭,” a different follower added.
Although this is definitely exciting news, there are still a few key things to keep in mind as The Rookie comes back to the small screen. With new episodes come new characters, as Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher will play LAPD rookies Miles and Seth. What’s more, Jenna Dewan’s fiancé Steve Kazee will likely reprise his role as Jason Wyler, since his character was last seen escaping from prison at the end of season 6.
Speaking of Jenna, it’s important to note it will be some time before her character Bailey Nune makes an appearance in The Rookie season 7. As for the reason behind her absence, Jenna went on maternity leave after giving birth to her and Steve’s daughter Rhiannon, who was born back in June (Jenna also shares son Callum with Steve and daughter Everly with ex-husband Channing Tatum).
No matter the case, we’re thrilled to get back in step with our favorite police officers very soon!
