The Rookie season 7 will arrive in 2025 (and here’s why it’s good for the series)
The Rookie Season 7 is coming, but not as quick as we’d like. How is this good news for fans?
Are you still reeling from The Rookie’s long hiatus? I am, but each day brings us closer to season 7, which will premiere during ABC’s 2024-25 midseason lineup. The season 6 finale left us with some staggering questions, which will be answered to the fans’ satisfaction in season 7’s opening episodes.
In case you need a recap, in the finale, Officer John Nolan and his team, along with some of the FBI agents, embarked on a dangerous mission to capture the notorious red-headed Monica, but to no avail. Elsewhere, two hardened criminals broke out of prison, with one being Bailey’s ex-husband. It’s with the hope that her ex won’t impact Bailey’s life and her plans of becoming a mother with Nolan, but as the drama accelerates, you know it will be problematic.
Due to Jenna Dewan’s pregnancy, she’ll be missing in the first few episodes as filming began during her third trimester. As Dewan has been a pivotal cast member since season 3, Bailey’s storylines (or lack) will be interesting because the writers are up to a challenge. The writers might integrate a narrative by sending Bailey away to scout possible adoption organizations or abduction by her ex. The cameras will focus on Nolan’s calm but panicky expressions, adding depth to The Rookie.
Why The Rookie season 7 being moved to 2025 is fundamental
Having the seventh season of The Rookie pushed back to 2025 isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as its absence made us do in-depth rewatches and adjust to the latest fall drops, Doctor Odyssey and High Potential. So far, I’m liking Doctor Odyssey as it has new weekly climaxes among current ones. If you haven’t yet checked out this new Ryan Murphy production, here’s your official suggestion.
When The Rookie makes its ceremonial comeback, it’ll have an episode block of 18, nearly twice as many as season 6, which was shortened to 10. That was due to the 2023 Writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which impacted almost every show across America.
Another great season 7 element will be the introduction of two new ‘rookies’ to the LAPD team. All-American alum Deric Agustine and TV newcomer Patrick Keleher will join the cast. They’ll likely be under the wing of Officer Nolan, as he has since been promoted to the exciting job of training officer. His new role is a huge step from his first days as a first-timer in season 1.
Another thing about the 2025 premiere is that there’ll be hardly any breaks between episodes, meaning they’ll have a smooth weekly transition. There’ll be no more month-long hiatuses or stops, and that’s good for the brain because we don’t have to stress too much about episode recall.
