With a full season in store for The Rookie Season 7, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is when Chenford are going to get back together. The Valentine’s Day episode made waves when Lucy and Tim hooked up, plus the two have gotten back some of their playful dynamics, but it still feels like Tim is hesitant about the relationship moving forward. Although The Rookie can be conventional in the way it approaches storylines, especially since it is a weekly procedural show, they should not fall into the trap of slipping into a seasons-long will-they-won’t-they relationship again. The tensions between Chenford are what made people fall in love with the ship, but keeping them apart or continuously putting obstacles in their way will only exhaust viewers; it won’t entice them. Instead, the show should be building on their relationship as romantic partners, something the show barely touched when the two started dating before Bradford suddenly ended the relationship. Give me Chenford finally getting together before the end of the season, and don’t drop it at the end of the season before a time jump. The couple dealing with the messiness of navigating a relationship is what makes the relationship worth watching.
