“THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE! Jamie Reagan finally found a real-life ‘bride’?” md20

Amid speculation that she will be in Avengers: Doomsday, Xochitl Gomez is returning to television with a key role in Boston Blue. The well-received CBS drama series is a spinoff of the Tom Selleck-led Blue Bloods.

According to Deadline, Gomez will appear in the freshman police procedural Boston Blue in the recurring role of Penny, “a quick-witted, charming young woman with a mysterious past” who crashes into the life of Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), the son of returning Blue Bloods fan favorite Danny Regan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, who took a position with the Boston Police Department due to an NYPD hiring freeze. Gomez will make her debut in the drama series on the upcoming Nov. 21 episode, “Code of Ethics.”

Gomez made her acting debut on Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home in 2018, but broke out when she starred in the first season of the Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club in 2020. She achieved worldwide recognition two years later, when she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Latina superhero America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), appearing opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s title superhero. While she hasn’t been seen since in the MCU, Gomez is heavily rumored to be returning as Chavez in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday due to the ambiguous responses she gave ET Online back in August about her involvement in the blockbuster crossover event. However, it’s important to note that Marvel Studios has not confirmed Gomez as being part of the Doomsday cast.

Boston Blue Is Another Hit Procedural for CBS

CBS has long been in the running for being the best of the networks when it comes to procedural dramas. While NBC has the Law & Order and One Chicago franchises, CBS has been home to the long-running NCIS and its many spinoffs, as well as the CSIverse and FBI franchise. With Boston Blue, CBS has a new franchise on its hands, as the series serves as a spinoff to the fan favorite Boston Blue, which ran for an impressive 14 seasons from 2010 to 2024. Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis developed Boston Blue, which originally began life as a standalone project with no ties to Blue Bloods. However, CBS saw an opportunity to rework the premise into the first extension of the Blue Bloods franchise, leading to the network handing a straight-to-series order for the spinoff in February 2025.

Boston Blue, like its predecessor Blue Bloods, centers around a multi-generational family with ties to law enforcement. Only the Reagans won’t be the sole focus this time around, as Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan and his son, Sean, will be joined by the Silvers, led by patriarch Reverend Peters, portrayed by Ernie Hudson. Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan crosses paths with this family when he is partnered with Sonequa Martin-Green’s Lena Silver, Reverend Peters’ granddaughter and a “rising star” in the Boston Police Department. The rest of the main cast includes Maggie Lawson as Lena’s stepsister Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as her younger brother Jonah Silver, and Gloria Reuben as her mother Mae Silver.
