Who Will Be Starring in ‘Dutton Ranch’?

While the official cast list for Dutton Ranch has yet to be revealed, eager viewers already know that Yellowstone‘s dynamic duo, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, will be back as fan-favorite couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in the upcoming spinoff. It was previously announced that Finn Little would be reprising his role as Beth and Rip’s adopted son, Carter, while Academy Award-nominee and Hollywood veteran Annette Bening had also signed on as Beulah Jackson, whose character has been described as “powerful, cunning, and charming” and heads a major ranch in Texas.

Ed Harris has also been added to Dutton Ranch‘s stacked roster, with the series marking the Golden Globe-winner’s return to TV following his acclaimed work in the HBO sci-fi Western Westworld. Harris will be playing Everett McKinney, a “weathered veteran and veterinarian who treats animals with compassion and understanding and has a good sense of humor.” Finally, the latest star who will be joining the juggernaut franchise is Jai Courtney, who is known for his lively performances in films like Suicide Squad and Dangerous Animals, with the Aussie appearing as Rob-Will, “an imposing, unpredictable ranch foreman.”

Dutton Ranch will be picking up after the events of the Yellowstone series finale, though lead stars Reilly and Hauser are being extremely tight-lipped over any further details about the spinoff and its premise. Based on the synopsis, the upcoming show will explore the aftermath of the original TV series and will explore the dynamic between Beth, Rip, and their son, Carter, with the teenager likely to be an important figure in Dutton Ranch and the character development of his parents. The official logline for the spinoff series reads:

“Beth Dutton (Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Hauser) are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter (Little) becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”

Beth and Rip had moved on and gotten settled at a brand-new Montana ranch just a couple of hours away from their former home, Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and there’s a high probability that characters from the flagship hit could pop up in the spinoff. As we anxiously wait for more plot details to be revealed, Reilly had previously stated she was “interested in Beth, and who she is after some things have happened”, and that she had the utmost trust that Sheridan would properly honor and explore the couple’s relationship, telling The Hollywood Reporter:

“I trust him with wherever he takes her; whether we’re leaving her where we’ve left her, or we’re going to find her somewhere else, I trust him.”

TV mastermind and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan will be serving as executive producer for Dutton Ranch, while Chad Feehan will be serving as both showrunner and an executive producer himself. Feehan has notably worked on Lawman: Bass Reeves, Ray Donovan, and Banshee as a creator, writer, and producer, and he had previously collaborated with Sheridan on the aforementioned Western miniseries about the legendary U.S. Marshal that starred David Oyelowo in the titular role.

Reilly and Hauser will also play a major role in the development of the spinoff, as both have signed on as executive producers and will be reunited with Yellowstone alums David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, John Linson, Michael Friedman, Christina Voros, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, and Keith Cox. Dutton Ranch will be produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, and, like its fellow franchise spinoffs, will be making its debut on the streaming giant Paramount+.
