Despite being seemingly set up for a happy ever after, Chicago Fire boss Andrea Newman warns about what will happen in Brett (Kara Killmer) and Casey’s (Jesse Spencer) future. The One Chicago couple has been through a lot in the last several years, but now, they are together stronger than ever and even engaged to be married after Casey proposed in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale. While their upcoming wedding is a cause for celebration for Firehouse 51, Brett and Casey’s path down the aisle may not be as smooth as initially perceived.
Speaking with Looper about all things Chicago Fire season 12, Newman confirms that Jesse Spencer will return as Casey this season. However, that doesn’t mean that things are going to be easy for him and Brett moving forward. The showrunner doesn’t get into specifics, but she warns that they will encounter unexpected challenges that could derail their planned future together. Read her full quote below:
“We love Matt Casey — we love Jesse [Spencer] — and we will definitely see him this season,” she says, adding, “We’ll see those two together. But there are plans in place that go awry. Things don’t go exactly how anyone thinks it’s going to go.”
Will Casey and Brett’s Wedding Actually Happen in Chicago Fire?
According to Brett, her wedding to Casey, which will be in Chicago, is in just a few weeks. Unless he only shows up a few days before the festivities, it’s safe to say that he will be back in the Windy City earlier. In Chicago Fire season 12, episode 2, “Call Me McHolland,” Brett is busy looking for venues, but it’s proving to be much more difficult, considering it’s a last-minute reservation. It’s uncertain if this is the extent of issues they will face in the remainder of Kara Killmer’s time in One Chicago, but it’s a start.
The worst that can happen is for Brett and Casey to pull the plug on their wedding. Chicago Fire has endured many devastating twists in the past, so doing this isn’t exactly farfetched. There’s likely no narrative need to break them apart, considering Killmer’s impending departure from the NBC series, but it will make for another defining moment for the first-responder project. For instance, Newman previously revealed that Brett will be extremely aggressive with the way she approaches her work during her last days in Firehouse 51, which means she may put herself in danger.
