Since Kevin Costner has exited Yellowstone and the show itself is ending after season 5, the franchise needs a replacement for both, and one rumored cast member in an upcoming spinoff is the perfect choice due to his experience with Westerns. Following the Paramount Network neo-Western drama’s finale, series creator Taylor Sheridan has many other Yellowstone TV shows and spinoffs in the works. From 1923 season 2 to an untitled sequel series reportedly featuring Beth, Rip, and Kayce, the Yellowstone universe will continue to expand long after the original TV show is gone.
One Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, will feature an all-new cast but take place in the same world as the Dutton family. It will reportedly follow a wealthy matriarch (Stacy) and her family as they move from the glitz and glamour of New York City to Montana, where they settle in the Madison River Valley, located in the center of the state. Hopefully, The Madison will prove to be a worthy replacement for the parent series. Given that one famous and talented actor is rumored to be in the cast, The Madison is already starting on the right foot.
Kurt Russell May Become A Yellowstone Franchise Lead As Kevin Costner Exits
According to TVLine, Kurt Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Patrick J. Adams are reportedly some of the actors that make up the cast of The Madison. The only one confirmed in the Yellowstone sequel is Pfeiffer. However, Russell will likely be right beside Pfeiffer in the upcoming TV show (which is different from the Yellowstone sequel series possibly featuring Beth, Rip, and Kayce). Given Russell’s fame, it would only make sense if he was playing one of the primary characters in The Madison, situating himself as one of the franchise’s new leads following Kevin Costner’s exit.
Since Costner is no longer associated with the Yellowstone franchise, someone needs to take his spot, and [Kurt] Russell is the perfect person for the job.
Taylor Sheridan’s TV shows are known to have renowned stars, from Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King to Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in 1923. Costner is the actor who started it all, though. Since Costner is no longer associated with the Yellowstone franchise, someone needs to take his spot, and Russell is the perfect person for the job.
Kurt Russell Has Made Multiple Great Westerns, Proving He’s Perfect For Yellowstone
Kurt Russell is the best pick to replace Kevin Costner in the Yellowstone franchise because of his extensive experience in the Western genre. The actor has most notably starred in Tombstone, Bone Tomahawk, and The Hateful Eight, all of which are very different (critically acclaimed) movies despite being in the same genre. Russell has proven he has range when it comes to Westerns. His performances as Wyatt Earp, Sheriff Franklin Hunt, and John “The Hangman” Ruth were impressive and unknowingly prepared Russell for The Madison. As a result, Russell will fit perfectly in the Yellowstone universe.
