Titled “In the Trenches,” the crossover is spread out across all three shows, beginning with Chicago Fire. As a previously released teaser clearly highlights, there is clear and present danger for Fire’s Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and there is not much her husband, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), can do about it. “They’re always complicated to put together, taking months of plotting, planning, writing, and prep before the cameras even roll,” Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman explains to TV Insider regarding the upcoming event. Newman goes on to describe it as “our biggest crossover yet,” albeit one that is exceedingly dangerous.
The Crossover Will Be Difficult for Couples
When “a gas main explosion rocks a full city block, creating a massive fire, geyser, and the collapse of sidewalks and tunnels below,” Newman shares, Chicago’s first responders will be called upon to serve with Med’s Dr. Frost (Darren Barnet) and Fire paramedics Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) team up for on-site triage. The Fire showrunner Newman does go on to tease that the episode will be an especially difficult one for couples, saying:
“All of our team is put in danger during the event, but several main characters are especially affected. There are firefighters trapped, other first responders injured, and the couples are really put through hell.”
The One Chicago universe was created by Dick Wolf and the upcoming event is a highly anticipated one given the lengthy passage of time since the last one. Wednesday’s crossover will begin with Fire, before crossing over to Med, and wrapping up with P.D. Besides the aforementioned names from Fire, the crossover will also feature David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Christian Stolte (Randy McHolland), Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter), and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) from Fire; Chicago Med will also present S. Epatha Merkerson (Sharon Goodwin), Oliver Platt (Daniel Charles), Steven Weber (Dean Archer), Marlyne Barrett (Maggie Lockwood), Jessy Schram (Hannah Asher), Luke Mitchell (Mitch Ripley), and Sarah Ramos (Caitlin Ramos); Chicago P.D. will dispatch Jason Beghe (Hank Voight), Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek), Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess), LaRoyce Hawkins (Kevin Awater), Amy Morton (Trudy Platt), Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Dante Torres), and Toya Turner (Kiana Cook).
You can watch it all unravel on NBC this Wednesday, January 29. You can also catch up with past episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. on Peacock in the US.
