Their professional relationship evolved while originally working together, which led to Ziva giving birth to their daughter, Tali (Isla Gie).
Given the precarious nature of their jobs, the safety of their daughter has always been their top priority.
The series recently dropped on M-Net (DStv channel 101). Unfortunately, it’s going to be a weekly wait to catch up.
But it kicked off with a bang: an unknown assailant tried to steal Interpol funds using a mysterious tech program called 9.4, setting up Tony to take the fall for the crime.
With their lives upended by recent developments, Tony and Ziva send Tali to a place of safety before teaming up with a hacker named Boris Pesko (Maximilian Osinski) to clear their names.
The world that the new series is set in meanders more into espionage rather than procedural territory. However, the combined experience of Tony and Ziva makes them the perfect vehicles to lead the franchise into a new direction.
Of course, fans have always been curious about their personal relationship. And during the course of the show, flashbacks to the past help piece it together.
Weatherly and De Pablo’s off-screen friendship feeds into their on-screen chemistry. He oozes his trademark charisma while his co-star offsets it with her feistiness.
This is also a comeback for Weatherly, who was accused of sexual harassment by his co-star in the hit legal drama, “Bull”.
To date, there have been several “NCIS” spinoffs, which have been successful. Whether the momentum can be sustained is yet to be determined, but the two episodes so far show considerable potential.
