One recurring staffer in Gaffney Medical Center has worn out their welcome so thoroughly that viewers are begging for either a total personality overhaul or a permanent departure.
Since Chicago Med is one of the best network TV dramas, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that there are currently things to love about the show. For example, Dr. Caitlin Lenox is a great character, a fun bromance seems to be in the making, and I can’t get enough of the newly introduced love triangle. All of that is to say nothing about how incredibly talented the group of actors who star in Chicago Med are.
Sadly, however, the truth is that there are aspects of the current state of Chicago Med that simply aren’t working for me. One notable example of that is that there is a recurring character whom I simply can’t stand, and I’m not the only one. For that reason, I believe that the character needs to change or leave the show soon.
Why Chicago Med’s Nurse Kacy doesn’t work for the show
During Chicago Med season 10, episode 17, “The Book of Archer,” the show introduced a new character named Nurse Kacy. Later brought back for episode 20, “The Invisible Hand,” Kacy was working in Gaffney Chicago Medical Center during both of those episodes for a very specific reason.
Throughout season 10 of Chicago Med, the nurses were facing shortages, so they recruited Kacy to cover some shifts. A traveling nurse who was depicted as erratic, Kacy’s portrayal clearly seemed to be designed as an embodiment of why the hospital’s nursing cutbacks were bad for patients and other staff members alike. After all, Kacy was notably absent from every Chicago Med season 10 episode that didn’t put a focus on the hospital’s nursing shortages. On top of that, a scene that showcased Dr. Dean Archer being exasperated by Kacy’s antics further underlined how frustrating she was meant to be.

During the first seven episodes of Chicago Med season 11, Kacy suddenly appeared to be a full-fledged Gaffney Chicago Medical Center employee. Since Maggie Lockwood has been missing from the show and season 10 ended with the nurse’s union signing a deal with the hospital, a new nurse joining the hospital’s staff makes perfect sense. What doesn’t make sense is Kacy getting that job and how the character has been portrayed during season 11.
In November 2025, a fan on the r/ChicagoMed subreddit made a post with a very telling title. “Nurse Kacy is obnoxious” That post received many upvotes and responses that agreed that the character isn’t working. To be fair, several of the people who responded to the post defended Kacy as a character and argued that she is funny, and had grown on them. However, the most popular response stated that Kacy is “out of place” on the show, while another called the character “awful” and stated that they “can’t wait til they write her off.”
The last thing that Chicago Med needs is another divisive character, and as someone who falls into the category of people who dislike Kacy currently, I see two options for the character.
Either Kacy’s portrayal could shift slightly by making her stop saying and doing inappropriate things while still maintaining her sense of humor, or the character could be written out. Since I think the actor who portrays Kacy has done an excellent job playing the character as written, and she seems like a lovely person from afar, I am rooting for the character to change and stick around.
