This One Beth Dutton Line Has Me Even More Excited for the Next Yellowstone Spin-Off!

Yellowstone is full of complicated characters, but perhaps none are more complex than Beth Dutton. Portrayed by Kelly Reilly, Beth is a force of nature in the Taylor Sheridan-created neo-Western series. Beth plays a pivotal role in all five seasons of the series, following her father’s commands loyally and always working to protect her family’s ancestral ranch. However, she also must battle her demons as the show progresses, aided by her growing love for Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).

Audiences can expect to see much more of Beth Dutton after Yellowstone’s series finale, with Kelly Reilly’s character confirmed to be returning for a new spinoff series alongside her husband, Rip. I tend to be incredulous of spinoff series set immediately after the events of their predecessors, as their stories can sometimes be contrived and feel unnecessary. However, Taylor Sheridan and his team may have something interesting brewing as they work on Beth and Rip’s as-yet-untitled spinoff series. If one line of dialogue from Beth is anything to judge by, her upcoming series could be a lot of fun to watch.

One Beth Dutton Line Sets Up an Epic Spinoff

Beth Dutton Is a Whirlwind to be Reckoned With in Yellowstone

Kelly Reilly brilliantly plays Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, bringing a wonderful fierceness to the character without eschewing a flair of vulnerability. Reilly gives one of her best performances in Season 3, as Beth clashes with corporate executive Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway). Meeting her nemesis at a bar (in the middle of the day, I might add), Beth and Roarke engage in a battle of wits. Things get ugly when Roarke suggests that the Duttons are on their last legs, getting closer to losing the land they had fought so fiercely to defend. While Beth agrees that Roarke is likely planning right, she refuses to go against her father and welcomes any battle Roarke may be. As he gets up to leave, Beth leaves him with one last thing to think about. Looking him dead in the eyes, Beth says that he fights for his life coming, claiming “You are the trailer park. I’m the tornado.”

Beth’s steely threat, even while looking into the face of one of her fiercest enemies, is more than enough to get me excited about her continuing adventures. Rip and Beth’s upcoming series has the potential to be one of the most exciting Yellowstone spinoffs yet. With Beth in the spotlight, the character can truly flourish as she grows into a more rounded character. Exchanges like the one between Roarke and Beth prove that she is every bit the fighter that her father was, making her the perfect protagonist to lead the Yellowstone franchise after John’s death. Fans loved the early seasons of Yellowstone thanks in large part to the Duttons’ utter refusal to give in and ability to fight dirty when they have come. Beth is the epitome of both of these traits, laughing in the face of overwhelming odds and looking for ways to capitalize on her opponents’ greatest weaknesses to destroy them once and for all. Of all the characters from the Yellowstone cast, Beth makes the most sense to lead her own spinoff, with scenes like these proving how captivating a character she can be.

What Will Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone Spinoff Be About?

The Spinoff Series Can Go In Many Different Directions

Kelly Reilly stars as Beth Dutton in the Yellowstone episode: "Half the Money"

Fans still have plenty of questions about the new Rip and Beth spinoff series. The show is confirmed to take place after the events of Yellowstone Season 5, in which John Dutton is murdered by his enemies at Market Equities, leaving the family in disarray. Strapped with an insurmountable inheritance tax, John’s children struggled to keep the ranch afloat until they were finally forced to do the unthinkable. In the gripping series finale, Beth and Kayce finally decide to sell the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch back to Thomas Rainwater and the people of the Broken Rock tribe, ensuring that the land will remain untouched by corporate developers. Aside from a part of the land that was left to Kayce and his family, the Duttons give up the entire of their ranch, closing a long chapter in their family’s legacy. Beth and Rip’s future lies beyond the Yellowstone, with the finale revealing that they had purchased another smaller tract of land elsewhere in Montana.

Presumably, the upcoming spinoff will follow Rip and Beth as they work to set up their new ranch after the finale of Yellowstone. Now in charge of their own land, Rip and Beth will continue to learn from John’s example. They will need to learn how to be leaders, not just loyals serving at someone else’s behest. They will also need to decide what kind of leaders they want to be. Perhaps Beth wishes to continue with her “tornado” strategy, destroying everything in her path on the way to the top. On the contrary, she may want to turn over a new leaf, learning from her father’s mistakes to become a better-rounded person. It will be exciting to see how Beth’s character continues to develop after the events of Yellowstone Season 5, as she has the chance to break free from the complicated Dutton legacy that has plagued her throughout her entire life.

The New Spinoff Can Make Beth Yellowstone’s Best Character

Beth Dutton Has Potential to Grow Significantly in Her New Series

Yellowstone has plenty of interesting characters, but Beth Dutton may be the best of them all. While she has a reputation for being extremely tough and even ruthless at times, Beth is also Yellowstone’s most vulnerable character, exhibiting a deep fear of abandonment stemming from her complicated relationship with her parents. Now, with both of her parents gone and a new life on the horizon, Beth’s potential development is very exciting. As she turns over a new leaf, Beth has the chance to reinvent herself apart from the Dutton legacy, which has often been more bad than good. If handled properly, Beth has the chance to surpass John Dutton as the most interesting character in the Yellowstone universe.

Rip and Beth’s Yellowstone spinoff needs to continue to explore its female lead’s struggle between light and dark. Without her father to influence her, Beth might find herself a more open and caring individual. Now that she no longer has to fight every day for John’s affection, she is free to start a new, healthier life for herself. She and Rip may even find the chance to raise a child, having adopted Carter in the later seasons of Yellowstone. As a mother, Beth has the chance to end the cycle of abuse that has plagued the Duttons for generations, building a better family for her son than she had as a child. Beth could be the first in a new line of Duttons who break away from the toxic relationships that have always ruined their family.

Yellowstone has an exciting opportunity on its hands with the new spinoff following Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. If executed properly, the upcoming series can turn Beth into the best character in the franchise, while turning over a new leaf for the Dutton family as a whole.
