Three’s Company Icon Joyce DeWitt Returns in Two Heartwarming Holiday Films

Three’s Company Star Joyce DeWitt Is Streaming on Stage and Screen

Fans of classic sitcoms will be delighted to see Three’s Company star Joyce DeWitt in two new movies streaming this holiday season. The 73-year-old Midwesterner, who played Janet Wood for eight seasons on the hit ABC series, shows off her Southern accent in both the delightful holiday musical “A Scattered, Smothered & Covered Christmas” and the lighthearted romantic comedy “Ask Me to Dance.”

In the musical (yes, she sings), DeWitt plays a waitress named Rita who finds herself putting her guardian angels to good use as they mingle during the lively third shift at a Nashville Waffle House.

She’s in for a surprise on Christmas Eve when another woman tasks her with finding a new wife for her lonely widow. The musical features a book by Kaine Riggan and a score by dozens of Nashville songwriters including Randy Travis, Paul Overstreet and T. Graham Brown, who also appear in the play.

In a recent CBS interview to promote the musical, DeWitt said, “It’s a great piece. It’s my favorite genre, very, very funny and has some very touching moments — the truth of the human heart is just laid bare on stage.”

DeWitt then made a dramatic appearance with white hair as “Nana” in writer/director Tom Malloy’s play “Ask Me to Dance.” The story follows Jack (played by Malloy) and Jill (Briana Evigan) who see a fortuneteller who tells them they will meet the love of their lives before midnight on New Year’s Eve, just five days away. The countdown begins, and Jack and Jill go on a series of hilariously horrifying dates, each one worse than the last. Each time, they almost meet.

DeWitt delivers some of the film’s funniest lines, along with co-stars Mario Cantone and Canadian actress Catherine Mary Stewart (Days of Our Lives and Weekend at Bernie’s).

“A Scattered, Smothered and Covered Christmas” is available for a limited time on BroadwayOnDemand.com and streaming for free at WaffleHouseMusical.com. “Ask Me to Dance” is available to rent for $3.99 on Amazon Prime Video, VUDU, and AppleTV.
