Titanic’s 4K 3D Remaster Drops an Epic Theatrical Return Trailer

To commemorate the film’s 25th anniversary, Titanic will return to theaters with a remastered 4K 3D high-frame-rate version. Paramount Pictures unveiled the rerelease’s trailer, featuring several key scenes from the epic romance between Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet). Currently, Titanic holds the record as the third-highest-grossing film worldwide. Furthermore, the 1997 movie won a groundbreaking 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Song for Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”

Before its upcoming 4K remaster, a 3D version of Titanic returned to theaters in 2012 to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the original ship. Earning an extra $343.6 million globally, Titanic became the second film to surpass $2 billion at the box office following Cameron’s Avatar in 2009. The film was once again brought back to theaters in 2017 for its 20th anniversary.

In addition to its massive financial success, Cameron’s movie launched DiCaprio into global stardom and established Winslet’s acting career. Additionally, the film featured the late Bill Paxton, Billy Zane and Kathy Bates.

Jack’s Fate in Titanic

Alongside Titanic’s 25th anniversary rerelease, Cameron plans to release a scientific special to settle the film’s longstanding debate on if Jack could have fit on the floating door next to Rose. “We have since done a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the raft from the movie, and we’re going to do a little special on it that comes out in February,” the Avatar: The Way of Water director said. To be exact, scientists employed two stunt people with the same body mass as DiCaprio and Winslet.
“We tested to see whether they could have survived through a variety of methods and the answer was, there was no way they both could have survived. Only one could survive,” Cameron revealed. Since Titanic premiered, many fans speculated there was enough room for Jack and Rose on the door, which would have prevented the death of DiCaprio’s character. Despite Cameron’s findings, MythBusters tested the controversial theory. They discovered both Jack and Rose could have survived on the door if they’d “MacGyvered her life jacket.”

Even if Jack could have lived, Cameron highlighted the importance of sacrifice throughout Titanic and stressed that DiCaprio’s character “needed to die.” Without his death, the film would be “meaningless.” In addition to Cameron, DiCaprio’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood co-stars agreed Jack could have fit on the door. When Brad Pitt asked DiCaprio his opinion, the actor simply replied, “No comment.” Additionally, Margot Robbie declared the incident the “biggest controversy in modern cinema.”

Titanic is available to stream on Pluto TV. The film’s remastered rerelease premieres in theaters on Feb. 10.
