Tom Selleck is speaking out about his frustration with CBS’s decision to cancel Blue Bloods, the hit series that has captivated audiences for 14 years. In an interview with TV Insider, the 79-year-old actor shared his feelings as the show approaches its final eight episodes.
“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck said. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods, but about it still being wildly successful.” He noted that the series ranked ninth among the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024, a testament to its ongoing popularity.
Selleck reflected on the show’s remarkable success, stating, “If you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot, and it will guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.” He expressed that the series has often been “taken for granted” due to its consistent performance.
He also revealed that processing the end of the show will take time, recalling his thoughts after filming the final episode: “I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday. Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”
As the series prepares to air its final episodes in December, Selleck acknowledged the financial implications of the cancellation, admitting he may have to give up his 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California, without the income from the show. “If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!” he explained.
Selleck, who has been a household name since the late 1960s, has enjoyed a successful career, and his passion for his craft remains evident as he faces this bittersweet chapter. He has been married to Jillie Mack since 1987 and has two children from his previous marriage.
