Blue Bloods is set to air its final episode in December. However, fans might not have seen the last of actor Tom Selleck just yet. In fact, the actor has already hinted at what his next project could be.
From Thomas Magnum To Frank Reagan, Tom Selleck’s Been Known By Many Names
For many fans, Selleck’s breakout role was playing Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. from 1980 to 1988. The part earned him five Award nominations, with him winning in 1985. Since then, he’s had quite a few other notable roles, such as Dr. Richard Burke on Friends.
Starting in 2010, Selleck would take on the role of NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. In addition to his work in law enforcement, Frank also serves as the patriarch of the Reagan family.
Interestingly enough, Selleck was initially concerned about joining Blue Bloods since he was already attached to playing another law enforcer. Starting in 2005, Selleck had also played the title character in the Jesse Stone made-for-television movies.
The character originates from a series of detective novels written by Robert B. Parker. Notably, the fifth film in the series, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice, was based on a story by Selleck instead of being a direct adaptation of the novels.
In an interview with TV Insider, released in early October, Selleck hinted he’s not entirely done with the Stone character. Now that Blue Bloods was coming to an end, the actor was asked if fans could expect a final Jesse Stone movie.
Selleck hinted fans haven’t seen the last of him playing the character just yet. As he noted, “It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie.]. It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it.”
The Interview Also Mentioned A Project Outside Of Acting
“Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later. But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working.”
During the interview, it was noted that Selleck had written a 2024 memoir, You Never Know, detailing his childhood and work on Magnum, P.I. It was then suggested that Selleck could write a memoir discussing what it was like working on Blue Bloods and the Jesse Stone films.
The actor mused, “It was really hard. It took four years and I’m not computer literate, so I wrote it with my pen and legal pad. I can’t wait to do the audio.”
Back in 2022, Selleck notably told TV Insider, that fans still ask him about Stone. As he noted, “One of the first questions I always get from people I meet is, ‘Are we going to see another Jesse Stone?’ Yes, Blue Bloods comes up and Magnum and even Friends, but first, it’s, ‘please do another Jesse Stone!’”
