Tom Selleck Steps Aside as Blue Bloods Spinoff Introduces New Star

CBS has announced a new chapter in the Blue Bloods saga with the upcoming spinoff series, Boston Blue, set to premiere in the fall of 2025. While the original series concluded in December 2024 after 14 successful seasons, the legacy continues with a fresh direction.

A New Lead Takes the Helm

In this spinoff, Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan. The series follows Danny as he relocates to Boston and joins the Boston Police Department, partnering with Detective Lena Peters, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green. Lena is introduced as the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family, bringing a new dynamic to the team.

Tom Selleck’s Departure

Tom Selleck, who portrayed NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan in the original series, will not be returning for the spinoff. Sources indicate that Selleck expressed frustration over the direction of the spinoff, feeling that the decision to move the Reagan family to Boston was a significant departure from the original premise.

Looking Ahead

Boston Blue aims to expand the Blue Bloods universe by introducing new characters and settings while maintaining the core themes of family and law enforcement. With Wahlberg’s involvement both in front of and behind the camera, the series is poised to offer a fresh perspective on the beloved franchise.
