“Tom Selleck Unrecognizable and Moustache-Free in Rare Soap Opera Role 50 Years Ago”

Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck had a very different look during the early days of his career with no sign of his iconic moustache in sight.

Blue Bloods fans were gutted when CBS announced the end of the hit series which combined the worlds of a police procedural with a family drama for 14 years.

Heading up the cast and the Reagan dining table was New York police commissioner Frank Reagan, portrayed by actor Tom Selleck who’s had a number of other major parts throughout his career.

Many of Selleck’s fans will remember him best for his role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum PI in the 1980s, while others will associate the Jesse Stone series with him and take on the role of Richard Burke in Friends.

But long before any of these iconic shows, Selleck had a stint in the unforgettable long-running soap opera The Young And The Restless.

Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck portrayed Jed Andrews in The Young And The Restless back in the 1970s.

Back in 1973, the 80-year-old was behind Jed Andrews in the CBS series with his character married to Betty Andrews, played by actress Lanna Saunders.

He was also friends with Lorie Brooks (Jaime Lyn Bauer) who he went on to have an affair with but her heart truly lied with Brad Elliot (Tom Hallick) at the time, leading to Jed’s exit in 1975.

Of course, Selleck was just 28 during filming of The Young And The Restless so he looked a lot younger but it was a rare time in the actor’s career given that he was clean shaven.

Selleck is famed for his moustache but The Young And The Restless was one of the only shows that he did where his facial hair was nowhere to be seen.

The Young And The Restless' Jed Andrews and Lorie Brooks, played by Tom Selleck and Jaime Lyn Bauer.

Following his stint in Blue Bloods, Selleck hasn’t let the grass grow, as he is now working on another Jesse Stone movie, which has yet to be titled.
