Tom Selleck’s Transformation: How Time Has Changed the “Magnum, P.I.” Star

Tom Selleck, 79, was accused of looking “unrecognizable” and “worlds away from his 80s heyday” as he stepped out after his beloved show Blue Bloods was cancelled earlier this year.

Selleck Accused Of Looking ‘Completely Unrecognizable’

Selleck was recently spotted in Thousand Oaks, California with a bushy beard and wearing casual clothing. He was seen rocking a plain navy T-shirt with a matching linen shirt. He topped off his look with some causal black trainers.

“80s star Tom, who is renowned for his role in Magnum PI, looked completely unrecognizable with a rugged full beard,” Daily Mail reported in response.

This comes one month after Selleck was seen leaving a gym in Thousand Oaks. Fans quickly noticed that he had large vertical scars on both of his knees. This led many to speculate that Selleck recently underwent knee surgery.
“The apparent knee surgery scars would explain why he appeared to have ‘trouble walking’ back to his car as seen in footage obtained by In Touch Weekly,” Daily Mail continued.

Selleck’s Representatives Defend Him

Selleck has never spoken publicly about undergoing or needing a bilateral knee replacement surgery. His representatives declined to comment when contacted.

Last summer, Selleck’s representatives spoke out to deny that the former Magnum P.I. star was suffering from “a secret medical crisis that has forced him to use a stunt double while filming Blue Bloods.” Though reports claimed that Selleck was “in a lot of pain and agony,” his rep insisted that the actor was “fit and vigorous.”

In January of last year, Selleck’s representative also shut down reports claiming that he has “crippling arthritis.” The representative insisted that Selleck is in “excellent health.”

Selleck Devastated By Blue Bloods Cancellation

Selleck is now back living on his California ranch with his wife Jillie Mack full-time. This came after he spent fourteen years commuting back and forth to the east coast to film Blue Bloods, which had been on since 2010.

Selleck was left devastated when CBS executives abruptly cancelled Blue Bloods at the end of last year. The star then spent months desperately trying to save the show. Even in May, Selleck was still hoping that the higher-ups at CBS would “come to their senses” and spare Blue Bloods from cancellation.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he told CBS News at the time. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”

Commuting across the country to film Blue Bloods may seem taxing. Back in January, however, Selleck said that he had “learned to love” his busy schedule filming the show.

“Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what?” he told TV Insider. “I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”

Selleck has been one of the most popular stars in Hollywood for decades. Whether he had to undergo knee surgery or not, it appears that he may still be struggling with the cancellation of Blue Bloods.

Regardless, the media should give Selleck a break when it comes to commenting on his appearance. After all, the man is preparing to turn 80 in January!
