There’s trouble in Chicago Med‘s E.D. — and we’re not just talking about the tumultuous relationship between exes Dr. Natalie Manning and Dr. Will Halstead.
Though, actually, yes, we’re talking about them, too.
In the exclusive clip from Wednesday episode above, we see Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) talking to Lily Cooper, a young pregnant patient, and her parents when David, the father of the baby, shows up. While Lily and her parents urge David to leave, he becomes increasingly agitated, especially when he learns of plans to put the baby up for adoption.
But security escorting David out of Lily’s exam room won’t be the last we see him. DeVitto teases “a really thrilling episode,” telling PEOPLE, “There’s a really dangerous situation that happens.”
From the show’s promos, we already know that the E.D. will soon go into lockdown mode as David brings a gun into the hospital. And it appears Natalie and Will (Nick Gehlfuss), whose engagement was only recently called off, may be held at gunpoint together.
“As two exes go, they really have to go through so much together, more than normal exes have to go through,” DeVitto tells PEOPLE. “So it kind of tests their relationship and it leaves you wondering how much they still care for each other.”
As for what their future looks like, DeVitto plays a bit coy: “You’re not gonna not see more Manstead stuff,” she teases.
DeVitto adds, “Will at this point is a little more clear on his feelings for Natalie. I think Natalie is so hurt and so upset by so much that even if she does feel it, she doesn’t want to face it. And she’s kind of hiding behind this new relationship with Phillip (Ian Harding).
Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
