It’s high time Will Trent lets go of Will and Angie’s romantic relationship, but for some reason, season 3 seems trying to force them back together. The two Will Trent main characters have had an on-and-off fling since the show’s beginning. After the season 2 finale, though, many rightfully assumed that Will and Angie’s romance was over for good (myself included). It’s hard to come back from arresting your significant other, after all. However, season 3 is foreshadowing Will and Angie’s reunion without truly earning it, meaning that the couple is only being set up for disaster.
ABC renews Will Trent for season 4, which will air during the 2025–2026 network TV season.
In the wake of Will Trent season 2’s ending, Will and Angie kept their distance from one another. Angie focused on getting her job back, while Will escaped to Tennessee. Once they came face-to-face for the first time since he arrested her, it was awkward, to say the least. Since then, Angie “released” Will, and the two have maintained a cordial working relationship, with the promise that they might get their friendship back one day. Will and Angie both started dating other people, and it seemed like they were finally moving on from each other — until season 3, episode 13.
Will Trent Season 3, Episode 13 Lays The Foundation For Will & Angie’s Reconciliation
Will goes undercover in Will Trent season 3, episode 13 to take down a cult. Unfortunately, things start to go sideways, and Will ends up tied to a chair in an underground cellar, forced to drink “sacred water” (which is laced with drugs).
Thankfully, the GBI comes to save the day in the Will Trent episode. Angie, Faith, and Ormewood infiltrate the cult’s quarters in the woods, and among the chaos, Angie is the one tasked with finding Will. When she does, Will says and does things he wouldn’t if he were sober.
Will tells Angie that he loves her more than once and reveals that he planned on implying to her before he arrested her. While all this might have been innocent enough, Will and Angie’s kiss certainly isn’t. Will unexpectedly locks lips with his former lover, proving he is far from ready to move on from her. He tells Gina Rodriguez’s Marion Alba just as much during his disco dance dream sequence. Angie writes off the kiss because Will was under the influence. Still, Will and Angie’s development surely feels like it’s setting the stage for their reunion in Will Trent season 3.
Will & Angie Getting Back Together Is Only Going To Make Things Worse For Them
Will and Angie have been down this road before, and it’s only going to end in heartbreak for them. They have demonstrated time and time again why they aren’t right for one another romantically. If Will and Angie revert to their old ways by the end of Will Trent season 3, they’ll be repeating their past mistakes, which would be a shame, given how far they have come.
Will and Angie have hardly put in the time to get back on track as friends, let alone as lovers, after he arrested her during the Will Trent season 2 finale. So, jumping back into their romance would be a complete disaster.
Will and Angie must deal with their respective and collective issues first, and they haven’t efficiently done so, especially after Will accidentally shot and killed the young teenager in Will Trent season 3, episode 11. They haven’t earned their reconciliation, meaning that Will and Angie rekindling their romance would be the worst thing that Will Trent can do.
Why It’s So Hard For Will & Angie To Leave Each Other Alone
It’s understands why Will and Angie keep coming back to one another in Will Trent. Their history runs deep, and their shared trauma helps them understand each other better than anyone else possibly could. However, that doesn’t mean they should be together.
Will and Angie can be friends, a goal that season 3 should be working towards. Instead, it appears as if Will Trent is trying to rekindle Will and Angie’s romance, which is premature, given their lack of shared development in season 3, and unnecessary because it’ll only lead to heartbreak for both of them.
