Tracker Season 2 Fails to Fulfill My Biggest Wish After Original Character’s Departure

Tracker Season 2 was never going to fulfill my biggest wish when an original character left the series. Premiering in 2024, it quickly became the most-watched scripted show of the 2023-2024 cycle. I believe Tracker’s cast is part of the reason I love the series so much. It’s engaging and diverse, which makes me want them to grow even more in future seasons. However, before it returns to TV, a new update has dashed my biggest wish for Tracker Season 2. While Justin Hartley’s central character works alone on the open road as the leader of his bounty operation, Colter’s team on Tracker is fundamental to his success. In Tracker season 1, Colter’s team consisted of Velma and Teddi Bruin, played by Abby MnEnany and Robin Weigert, Eric Graise’s Bobby Exley, and Fiona Rene’s Reenie Green. It was just a skeleton, but a strong one, considering their success rate. That said, Tracker season 2 would complicate the team dynamic in a major way that risks disrupting the show’s balance. Additionally, my biggest hope for the series is now gone.

Prior to season 2, Tracker lost a member of its original cast. The series announced that Robin Weigert would be leaving the series as Teddi Bruin, one of Colter’s two handlers who helped him run his bounty operation. Aside from Tracker losing a valuable character with a lot of potential, there’s another downside to losing Teddi. It dashes my hopes of seeing Colter’s entire team together to further establish their camaraderie. Bringing them together physically would also strengthen the group’s chemistry, which is important, since they’ve largely only communicated online.

I find this update most unfortunate, as Tracker’s original cast was one of the show’s strengths after its successful first season. Keeping the original Tracker cast intact when the show launched season 2 would have been a show of strength and stability, but now the cast is bound to fall apart, as it seeks to get rid of Weigert. Teddi’s marriage to Colter’s other manager, Velma, only makes things worse, as their marriage will face uncertainty to facilitate Robin Weigert’s departure.
Teddi’s role as Tracker is necessary in many ways, despite her limited screen time. Teddi plays a vital role in Colter’s operation, as she helps him find new jobs, takes care of his alimony and bills, and handles his bonus payments. Beyond that, however, Velma and Teddi are essentially Colter’s family. Colter has a strained relationship with his family, especially his mother, and Velma and Teddi are the loving mothers he needs, always looking out for him and checking in when no one else will. The loss of Teddi is a significant development for Colter overall.

I love how CBS turned Colter’s handlers into sweet LGBTQ+ couples who are always there for him.

Also, I really like what Tracker has accomplished with the characters of Teddi and Velma. I love how CBS turned Colter’s handlers into sweet LGBTQ+ couples who are always there for him, and that’s one of the things I love about the show the most. However, I think Velma and Teddi needed more screen time and their relationship felt contrived as the characters only had brief moments to appear. Now, my biggest wish of seeing Velma and Teddi develop, and the entire Tracker cast still be complete in season 2, has officially been snuffed out.
