Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw finally sets himself up to solve his paramount case in Tracker season 2, episode 9. In the midseason premiere, “The Disciple,” Colter investigates Gina Picket’s case with Keaton (Brent Sexton) after a new lead emerged in the midseason finale. At the end of Tracker season 2, episode 8, the ex-cop calls Colter to report that he has found something in Colter’s “white whale” case. The reward-seeker enlisted Keaton’s help on the investigation after the pair met in Tracker season 2, episode 6, becoming allies after teaming up in the Snoqualmie National Forest on Keaton’s cold case.
Colter and Keaton make monumental progress in Gina’s case, and their team-up formula is a successful one. Justin Hartley’s hero teased at the end of Tracker season 2, episode 9, that Keaton could return in the future. If he does, he may help Colter move the ball forward in an even more important development for the series. The mystery of who killed Colter’s father in Tracker season 1 emerged as audiences got to know the self-proclaimed “rewardist.” However, the case has been on the back burner with Colter’s attempts to bring peace to Gina’s sister, Camille (Floriana Lima), in Tracker season 2.
How Colter Shaw Solved His White Whale Gina Picket Case Explained
Colter And Keaton Teamed Up To Solve Gina Picket’s Cold Case
In Tracker season 2, episode 9, Colter finally solves Gina’s case after Keaton brings in new information. The resolution comes on the heels of the midseason finale when Keaton reached out to Colter because he had discovered a new lead. In the midseason finale, the ex-cop brings Colter to an abandoned warehouse building where he keeps a man named Alex Silva (Johnny Rey Diaz), who has information about Gina’s disappearance. Silva tells Colter and Keaton about a man called the Teacher who manipulated a group of young men to kidnap unsuspecting women, including Gina Picket.
Alex confirms that Frank Whales (Ryan Dorsey) is involved in Gina’s disappearance. Colter suspects Whales of foul play in Gina’s case since he was the last person she saw before vanishing. Whales first appears in the Tracker season 2 premiere when Colter visits him to follow up on Gina’s case, which he does each year on the anniversary of her disappearance. After investigating several of his hideouts, Colter runs into Teacher and apprehends him for his crimes in episode 9, finally confirming that Gina Picket is dead. While it’s a sad conclusion, it brings Camille an overdue resolution.
Why Colter Needed To Solve Gina’s Case
Colter Needs To Solve His Father’s Murder
Colter solved Gina’s case relatively quickly, and it’s ultimately good news that the rewardist has the cold case in his rearview mirror. Lately, Colter hasn’t spent much time investigating the mystery, revisiting it once a year. Still, Gina’s case overshadowed other major plot points in Colter’s story in Tracker season 2. Tracker season 1 revealed that Colter’s father was mysteriously killed one night in the woods outside their family’s compound. Still, season 2 has not progressed the mystery despite Colter uncovering something huge at the end of the show’s freshman run.
In Tracker season 1’s finale, “The Storm,” Colter Shaw met with childhood friend Lizzy Hawking (Jennifer Morrison) after her daughter went missing while storm chasing. After the case was resolved, Lizzy told Colter that Ashton Shaw was having an affair with her mother. Lizzy also told Colter she found a box of his dad’s files and gave them to Colter’s sister, Dory (Melissa Roxburgh). Now that Colter has Gina’s case off his shoulders following his tenth anniversary, he can finally follow up on the promising lead about his father’s death. That’s vital since Ashton’s murder is Tracker’s heartbeat.
