Tracker Season 3 Departure of Velma and Bobby Explained by EP

When Tracker returns for its third season in October, it will be without two key characters. Eric Graise’s Bobby Exley and Abby McEnany’s Velma Bruin will be written off in the Season 3 premiere, although showrunner and executive producer Elwood Reid assured fans that both could ultimately return one day to the CBS drama series.

Speaking with TVLine, Reid confirmed that Bobby and Velma’s absences in Tracker Season 3 will both be explained. “With Velma’s character, she’s going off to be with Teddi,” shared the showrunner, namedropping her estranged wife, who was played by Robin Weigert and written off Tracker after the first season. As for Bobby, “he seized on a good opportunity. That doesn’t mean these people can’t come back, but we wanted to consolidate and build out Reenie’s office a bit more,” explained Reid. Graise and McEnany’s departures from Tracker were first reported in July 2025.

Tracker now has just two series regulars left: Justin Hartley as main character Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist and tracker who earns his living by assisting law enforcement and private citizens in exchange for reward money, and Fiona Rene as attorney Reenie Greene, who assists Colter in legal matters. While Season 3 won’t introduce any new main cast members, Reid revealed to TVLine that fan-favorite character, Randy (Chris Lee), who was introduced midway through season 2 as Bobby’s cousin, will continue to recur.

Tracker Season 3 Will See a Lot More of 1 Fan Favorite

“Bobby felt very nestled into his place, whereas Randy’s been casting about. Without giving too much away, in the wake of [what happened with] Reenie — having had that breach at her company with Sharp, her being kidnapped and taken, and her boyfriend being shot — she’s in a fragile, somewhat dark place, although she’s trying to mask it. One of the things that she does is she brings Randy out to get her security up to snuff. That sparks a conversation about him perhaps sticking around and working out of her office — both with Colter and helping her with her law practice,” teased Reid as to how Tracker will set up a larger role for Lee’s Randy in the show.

The showrunner also admitted that having “Chris Lee in the same space that Fiona Rene is in just gets you [more]. The stuff we’ve seen so far is so much fun. It has made a huge difference. Now, when Colter calls, it feels like he’s calling into something already in motion. This is all part of my ‘evil plan’ to use Fiona more — the more you can build out her world, the more the show benefits.”

A fan-favorite character who has been with the Law & Order franchise since its beginning was shockingly killed off in the SVU Season 27 premiere.

Tracker fans likely won’t feel the absences of Graise and McEnany too much in the Season 3 premiere, as the two-parter is set to feature the long-awaited return of Jensen Ackles as Colter’s estranged brother Russell Shaw. “As Colter grapples with the shocking truth surrounding his father’s death, Russell joins forces with his brother to help track down the missing wife and daughter of one of Reenie’s clients. Their reunion finds them mixed up in a chain of events involving a sinister underground operation known as ‘The Process,'” reads the logline for the first half of the Season 3 premiere, “The Process,” which will air on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 19, with the second half, “Leverage,” following one week later on Oct. 26.
