Tracker Season 3’s Mysterious New Character Could Spell Trouble for Colter Shaw

Tracker season 3, after trimming down its cast considerably prior to the most recent premiere, brought a brand-new character into the mix in its most recent episode, and she could cause trouble fo Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley). With Tracker season 3 finally stepping into a new era of the series as Colter’s team has been revamped, things are changing on the series.

With Tracker having made some big decisions surrounding its cast over the past few years, the show has changed several times as it’s moved into its current state. After original cast member Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin, left the series after Tracker season 1, things were left somewhat broken as Tracker season 2 started. Eventually, the series lost another regular.

When Eric Graise, who played Bobby Exley, seemingly disappeared from the show, viewers were confused about what was happening behind the scenes on Tracker. By the end of the season, it was clear that Bobby and Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany) wouldn’t be returning to the show moving forward. Now, with Tracker season 3 having introduced a new team member, things could get sticky for Colter.

Tracker’s New Character, Mel Day, Rounds Out Reenie’s Staff

Throughout Tracker season 3 episode 3, “First Fire”, saw the show’s newest character thrown into the mix of Reenie Green’s (Fiona Rene) office. Mel Day (Cassady McClincy Zhang) is quick to share her background with Reenie, but when she’s asked about what drew her to working with the attorney, Mel reveals that Reenie’s work with Colter was a selling point for her.

Mel goes on to reveal that her mother’s death, an unsolved cold case that led her to feel like the authorities were more interested in protecting themselves than finding a resolution, had a major impact on her desire to work for someone more independent. While Mel seems to be a solid addition to the team, her motivations are murkier than Reenie or Bobby’s replacement, Randy (Chris De’Sean Lee).

Although there’s still a lot more to learn about when it comes to Mel’s backstory and motivation in joining Colter’s team, there’s something that feels off about her presence in general. While it’s absolutely possible that Tracker season 3 is hopeful to round out Reenie’s world without bringing someone entirely into the fold, her interest in Colter specifically was concerning.

The fact that Mel came into her interview with Reenie knowing about Colter to begin with was interesting, albeit a bit sketchy. As things forged ahead, Mel seemed to fit right into the world of Trackerbut it’s far too soon to tell if things will take a turn for the character, or if she’ll become a normal piece of the Colter Shaw puzzle.
