Tracker Theory: The Real Identity of Colter Shaw’s Lost Love Revealed

This week’s episode of Tracker asks Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) a difficult question: Who is the “one” in his life who got away? Who has he avoided settling down with? As Randy (Chris Lee) enlists Colter to help him with his ex-girlfriend Megan’s (Khamisa Wilsher) problems in Reno, he reveals that Megan is the woman of his dreams. Despite no longer being together, he will always be there for her. But when Randy asks Colter who his “one” is, the titular tracker refuses to answer. But while this is no doubt a ploy on the writers’ part to keep us guessing as to who Colter’s true love may really be, the truth of the matter is that perhaps Colter himself is not sure… Still, we have our theories.

Colter Shaw Has Had a Few Different Love Interests on ‘Tracker’

On the one hand, the unnamed woman on Colter’s mind may be Camille Pickett (Floriana Lima). Though we don’t meet Camille until the second season, it turns out that she is actually Colter’s longest-running love interest. After Camille’s sister, Gina (Lina Lecompte), disappeared years ago, she and Colter have been largely split apart. The grief of losing her sister drove a wedge between Camille and Colter, and though they’ve continued to explore an occasional romance, their relationship has been fractured for years. No doubt, Colter’s promise to bring Gina home rang empty after all those years, and likely held them back from happiness. After Colter discovers the truth about Gina in “The Disciple,” Camille decides that it’s time for her to travel and see the world. Though she’s gone for now, it seems as if she has left the door open for a possible future between them, if that is what they ultimately want.

On the other hand, there’s also Billie Matalon (Sofia Pernas). First introduced as a thief who continually finds herself in Colter’s crosshairs, Billie has appeared in a number of episodes, and in each one, she and Colter seemingly grow closer. This season, Colter shows a genuine interest in Billie’s life outside “the job,” and quickly puts his own on the line to help her. That favor is returned by Billie in “The Grey Goose,” where she is willing to go undercover on the inside of a prison in order to help him on a job. Her willingness to put her own life on the line in this way (especially after looking out solely for herself so often) suggests that perhaps Billie has fallen for Colter in a way we hadn’t expected her to. It also helps that Billie is played by Justin Hartley’s real-life spouse, Sofia Pernas, so it’s likely we’ll continue to see the character throughout Tracker‘s run, however long the series continues.

Reenie Greene May Be Colter Shaw’s “One” Love on ‘Tracker’

Fiona Rene as Reenie and Justin Hartley as Colter standing in a field on 'Tracker' .

However, perhaps the most obvious answer to this question is Colter’s resident lawyer, Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene), who has been with the show since the very beginning. When the series began, Colter and Reenie noted that they had tried to make something happen between them before, but it didn’t quite work out. It’s implied that this is mostly due to Colter’s continual secrecy. In fact, in the very first episode, “Klamath Falls,” the two are said to have slept together previously before Colter snuck out on a case. Throughout Season 1, there is a will-they-won’t-they between these two, leading many to wonder (and hope) that Colter and Reenie will graduate into something more as the series progresses, but Season 2 has dashed that hope so far.

Early in the second season, Reenie is seen with a new love interest, Elliot Rush (Michael Rady). This has seemingly made Colter more than a little jealous (though he’s naturally kept his cool), feigning support throughout the process. Though we haven’t seen much of Elliot this season (especially after he nearly gets Colter killed in “Shades of Gray”), it appears that he has remained a foil for any advances Colter may offer — not that he’s been willing to so far. Still, Colter and Reenie work well together in a professional capacity, which has led viewers to wonder why they weren’t able to do the same romantically. As early as the pilot, Colter is seemingly remorseful for the way he previously treated Reenie, and the two have been known to flirt around the “office” on a number of occasions. More than that, they’ve also managed to save each other’s lives, both physically and legally speaking. It’s clear that their bond runs deeper than simple professionalism.

Could ‘Tracker’ Be Teasing a New Romance for Colter Shaw?

While Reenie is the most obvious “one” of the bunch here (largely because she’s a main cast member with whom Tracker can play the long game), there’s always the possibility that Colter’s “one” love is someone we haven’t met. After all, there’s a lot about Colter’s life that we don’t know about. Perhaps someone else from his secret past will come to mind, or maybe this is the moment he begins to really take stock of who he is and what he wants. Though the beginning of “Memories” teases us with more trivia about his deceased father, there are still far more questions about Colter Shaw and his upbringing than there are answers. Until those answers come to light, we’re left wondering who this mysterious “one” who got away may be. Our money is still on Reenie, but with Colter Shaw, it’s often hard to tell.
