Tracker’s Renewal Fate Revealed Ahead of Season 2 Finale

The hit CBS procedural crime drama Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, just had its winter premiere on Feb. 16, but the network has decided where it will go with the series in the future. Per Deadline, Tracker has been renewed for a third season on CBS. The series is the most-watched scripted series on broadcast television currently, with an average of 18 million viewers across platforms in 35 days, per Variety.

The second half of Tracker’s second season, which continues on Feb. 23, consists of 14 episodes, bringing the total for Season 2 up to 22 episodes. The first season of Tracker had just 13 episodes in total. The show has an 89% Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score and was also the most-watched TV show in the 2023-24 season, drawing 10.8 million weekly viewers.

CBS seems to have struck gold once again when it comes to the procedural drama genre, Tracker, which focuses on a new case each week for Hartley’s Colter Shaw as well as a continuing storyline. Hartley, known for his starring role as Kevin Pearson on NBC’s This is Us, before becoming the titular Tracker, stars as Shaw, who is a survivalist who uses his instincts to find missing persons and collect the rewards for doing so.

This Season Will Feature a Major Guest Star

The ongoing second season of Tracker will feature a new recurring guest star. Deadline reported earlier in February that Chris Lee, of the CW supernatural-fantasy series, Legacies, will have a major recurring role during the second half of the season. Lee will reportedly play Randy, who is a charming, charismatic cousin of Bobby Exley (Eric Graise). In the show, Randy visits town to help his cousin.

The winter premiere of Tracker, titled “The Disciple”, saw Colter Shaw getting a new lead in his “white whale” case, which was the ongoing storyline about the disappearance of Gina Pickett. Nicholas Lea, of The X-Files, guest starred on the episode.

The first half of the second season also saw the return of Jensen Ackles as Colter Shaw’s brother, Russell. Ackles, who starred in Supernatural as Dean Winchester for 15 seasons, appeared in the second episode of the season, titled “Ontological Shock.” In the episode, Russell has to track down a missing Colter. How Family Plays a Big Part in Tracker

“Family seems very basic, but every single person that walks the earth has a story about their family. Even if you’ve never met your family, that’s a story,” Hartley told Collider. “Everybody has wants and desires when it comes to their family, and things they didn’t get and regrets. Family is something everybody can relate to. It’s never resolved. It just gets more and more complicated. It’s very relatable, which is key,” he said.

The next episode of Tracker airs on Feb. 23 on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
