The One Chicago franchise is notorious for crossover episodes, but there hasn’t been a three-way crossover between Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. in several years. One Chicago includes NBC’s popular first responder dramas Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, as well as the now-canceled Chicago Justice. The franchise was created by Derek Haas, Michael Brandt and Dick Wolf, the latter of whom also created the Law & Order and FBI franchises. One Chicago shows have become some of the highest-rated programs in primetime television, with an average of around seven million viewers for each series.
All three Chicago-based shows are set in the same fictional universe and crossovers between them frequently occur, whether it be a character popping up on a sister series or a major crossover event. Fans are long overdue for a three-show crossover, however, as the last one took place in 2019.
Following a lengthy hiatus due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, One Chicago returned with all new seasons in January 2024, giving fans renewed hope for a crossover event. Read on to see if there will be a One Chicago crossover this year.
Will there be a One Chicago crossover in 2024?
Will there be a One Chicago crossover in 2024? Although we don’t know for sure, the odds that 2024 will be the year fans finally get a three-way crossover are looking slim.
During a January 2024 interview with TV Insider, Chicago Med executive producer Diane Frolov revealed that a major crossover event might be hard to pull off this season. “As far as a big crossover, it’s being talked about, but it’s difficult because each show is in a different dramatic place in a way that characters are involved in their stories,” she explained. “So it just becomes, when is it appropriate for one character to cross over into another?” Frolov did note, however, that she is “sure” there will be smaller crossovers on Chicago Med, with appearances from Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. characters.
While fans would love to see the shows have another connecting storyline, it’s understandable that 2024 might not be the year for that. Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. all have shortened seasons this year due to the strikes, with each season consisting of only 13 episodes. Additionally, there have been several cast member exits across the entire franchise, as well as various new characters that each respective show needs to flesh out.
