The benefit of Will Trent and The Rookie being delayed to the midseason was that the shows wouldn’t have breaks. Sadly, there is a break coming this week on Tuesday, March 4.
When we learned that Will Trent and The Rookie would be delayed to January 2025, there were mixed feelings. The major benefit was that with 18 episodes to the two seasons, the schedules could be relatively consistent.
I’ll admit that the minute I saw that the shows would premiere in early January, I knew one break at least at to happen. There were more than 18 weeks to get us to the middle of May, which is when ABC and other networks like to put on their season finales. So, it isn’t that surprising to see that we’re heading into a break now, but this isn’t just for scheduling purposes.
A Presidential Address will be broadcast on ABC
The Big 4 networks will have a news special that airs from 9 p.m. ET. It’s all about the Presidential Address to the Joint Session of Congress. There is no way that any of the networks would skip over this, and regular programming wouldn’t be able to go up against it all that well.
Some networks are opting to put on new episodes of their 8 p.m. shows. CBS is opting for a new episode of The Price Is Right at Night instead of FBI to keep the three dramas on the same episode. As for ABC, it’s all about a rerun of Will Trent. We’re heading back to the Faith-centric episode, which saw Faith face her past and conflicting feelings about her mom as the team hunted Evelyn Mitchell down.
When are Will Trent and The Rookie back with new episodes?
The break is a short one. Both shows will return on Tuesday, March 11. Their promos made that clear.
Will Trent will pick up with the murder of a famous rapper. This makes the murder investigation much harder, as the press will be everywhere. Fans will want to find out what’s happened, and there are sure to be all sorts of allegations.
As for The Rookie, we’re getting a personal episode for Nyla. James is attacked, but Nyla becomes a prime suspect. Nolan caught James kissing someone else, and this could lead to some jealousy on Nyla’s part. Would she really do something like that? I can’t see it happening! She wouldn’t put her career or her time with her children at risk.
