The Blue Bloods season 14, part 2 premiere date is on the way, as the show marches closer to its end. Having first premiered in 2010, the police procedural has been a CBS mainstay for over a decade, though in 2023, before the premiere of season 14, CBS announced that the season would be its last. The midseason finale premiered on May 17, 2024, leaving a months-long gap before viewers could see a proper conclusion. Blue Bloods season 14, part 2 will have eight episodes and will provide a definitive ending for the characters.
Now, nearly two months after the part 1 finale, the premiere date has officially been scheduled by CBS. Blue Bloods season 14, part 2 will begin airing on Friday, October 18 at 10 p.m. It will retain the same timeslot as the previous half of the season and will premiere the same week as Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, S.W.A.T. season 8 and Fire Country season 3, and will be CBS’ last premiere of the week.
Blue Bloods Is Coming To An End
Despite its long run and continuous success, the Reagan family story will soon be coming to an end. While there was a fan campaign to save Blue Bloods, it failed to prevent the upcoming finale, though there was ultimately little hope of preserving the show. An exceedingly high budget, given a consistent and large ensemble cast, meant that continuing to produce the show would be a hassle for CBS. New York City filming requirements also meant a rising budget. When combining both expenses, the reality was that the show was simply too expensive to continue producing.
There has been some hope, however. While much of the cast will likely conclude their runs with the show, there is a spin-off in development that should feature some of them. Unfortunately, that spin-off has been slow to develop, with CBS Studios President David Stapf emphasizing that the show is still in its early stages, and as such is still likely years away from production. The cast still remains loyal to the idea of Blue Bloods season 15. S.W.A.T., a similar show, had its cancelation reversed, but it is unlikely to happen here, given that the finale has already been filmed.
Starting a spin-off show will simply be a cheaper prospect for CBS, which is why the network is expected to leave the Tom Selleck-led show behind. The announcement preempted season 14, so that the cast and crew had ample time to prepare an appropriate ending. Season 14, part 2 will run for eight episodes, leaving every major character with the opportunity to say goodbye at some point during the concluding episodes. As well-regarded as Blue Bloods is, it is officially almost time to say goodbye to another beloved procedural.
