Virgin River enthusiasts have been vocal in their criticism of an “awful” decision made in the show’s fifth season.
Devotees of the Netflix hit are united in their clamour for a significant alteration as they keenly anticipate the upcoming sixth instalment of the beloved series.
The consensus is clear: Mel Monroe, portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge, desperately needs a wardrobe revamp following some dubious fashion choices in the previous season.
A disgruntled fan expressed their dissatisfaction on Reddit, questioning the producers’ styling decisions.
“Am I the only one hoping that she is dressed better in season 6? ” they queried, adding, “I am rewatching the odd episode of season 5 and I forgot how old lady like they dressed her.”
It’s possible that Mel’s more relaxed attire in season five was a reflection of her pregnancy and stepping away from her role at the Virgin River clinic, which may have influenced her more laid-back fashion sense.
Tragically, her pregnancy did not come to term, resulting in a miscarriage that left both her and her partner Jack Sheridan, played by Martin Henderson, heartbroken.
Nevertheless, viewers are hopeful that the next season will bring not only better fortunes for Mel but also a chance for her to don more glamorous outfits.
“The long, billowy dress and outer cape she wore to the dinner at Brie’s was awful,” another fan chimed in. “What were they thinking of?”.
Echoing the sentiment, another remarked: “I’ve been saying this! What was all that frumpy stuff? Hoping for a different wardrobe team this time around.”
Reflecting on the show’s earlier seasons, another fan reminisced: “I’m rewatching season one and two and she looked so good at the start!”.
One fan expressed dissatisfaction, commenting: “Cute, casual outfits with great boots, little sleeveless jackets, autumnal colours. What the hell happened in those later seasons?”.
Another added their grievance, stating: “Easily my biggest pet peeve with the show.”
Continuing the fashion critique, the reply came: “The frumpy cardigans with the high neck shirts? I’m begging for her to have better style next season. It’s currently giving middle school teacher in their 50s.”
Virgin River’s fifth season didn’t lack for drama, with a forest fire nearly wreaking havoc until Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole) stepped in with lifesaving measures.
