A new Virgin River season 6 theory pulls from the show’s two-episode fifth season finale, setting up an idea that, if true, would completely change everything for Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge). Based on the Virgin River novels by Robyn Carr, Netflix’s romantic drama has five seasons under its belt, with Virgin River season 6 poised to premiere in late 2024. The new season will pick up where Virgin River season 5, part 2’s ending left off. The Christmas-set two-episode finale saw Mel and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) tracking down Mel’s biological father, Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson).
Mel and Jack’s investigation into Virgin River’s Everett, also known as Champ, is prompted by the end of Virgin River season 5, part 1, which reveals that Mel’s late mother had an affair with a local. Initially, Everett claims that he isn’t the man Mel is looking for, which Mel, knowing better, perceives as a flat-out rejection. By the end of the episode, Everett shows up to apologize and gift Mel a stack of postcards her mom penned, but her bio-dad also says he has something important to tell her — a cliffhanger that’s prompted many fan theories.
Although Virgin River has teased a timeline-fixing time jump, season 6 needs to tackle whatever it is Everett wants to reveal at the end of the fifth season. Recently, the Netflix show released the sixth outing’s episode titles — and the first entry teases a massive Mel twist (via Express). Although the episode order hasn’t been officially confirmed, the first episode on Virgin River season 6’s roster is titled “Brothers & Sisters.” The leading theory is that Everett has another sibling — or siblings — to tell Mel about. It’s even possible Mel has a twin brother or sister.
The existence of secret siblings isn’t one of the Virgin River season 6 storylines the showrunner teased, but it would certainly make for an appropriately melodramatic twist. A long-standing Virgin River theory suggests Mel’s biological dad is connected to another pre-existing character. More specifically, the theory posits that Everett is also Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) biological father. Jack’s former lover, Charmaine just concluded Virgin River’s most absurd storyline — her five-season-long pregnancy — so the reveal that she and Mel, Jack’s current partner, are (half) sisters would be perfect, especially since Mel just helped deliver Charmaine’s twins.
