Alexandra Breckenridge, the beloved star of Virgin River, has sent fans into a frenzy this week with a heartfelt reunion alongside her former co-stars. While she’s widely recognized for her role as Mel Monroe in the hit Netflix series, Breckenridge also made a significant mark in all six seasons of NBC’s acclaimed drama, This Is Us.
In This Is Us, she portrayed Sophie Inman, the wife of Kevin Pearson (played by Justin Hartley), transitioning from a recurring role in the first season to a main cast member by the second. After taking on the lead role in Virgin River, she made memorable guest appearances in several later episodes of This Is Us.
This week, Alexandra joined the That Was Us recap podcast, hosted by her former co-stars Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and Chris Sullivan, to reflect on her time in the series.
An Instagram post teased the exciting new episode: “We’ve got a new episode of #ThatWasUs ready for you!! Join us as we recap ‘Jack Pearson’s Son’ and discuss the return of Sophie with none other than @alexandrabreck!! And as we dig in, we have just one question for you: What would Jack do?”
Fans were overjoyed to witness Alexandra reconnect with the show that propelled her to stardom before her move to Virgin River in 2019. Comments poured in, with one fan exclaiming, “Sophie!!! Omg I can’t wait to watch this one,” while another declared, “Omg you got Alex too, so happyyyy! Sophie was such a lovely sweet character, and I’m so glad she got her happy ending with Kev.”
Others echoed their admiration: “Alexandra Breckenridge is the best!” and “What a great surprise! I love Sophie/Alex and I’m thrilled to see you all together again.” Another fan added, “Such a fun episode!! Loved that you had Alex on it!! I adore her on Virgin River!!”
As anticipation builds, Alexandra is set to grace our screens once more in the eagerly awaited sixth season of Virgin River, alongside Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan. The new season will dive into the aftermath of a devastating forest fire that nearly obliterated the town, with Mel facing the emotional turmoil of a miscarriage and the difficult decision to pause her journey toward motherhood.
In a shocking twist during the festive episodes, Mel’s world expands when she discovers that her biological father, Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson), has been her neighbor all along, setting the stage for a dramatic exploration of their newfound relationship.
