Virgin River Season 7 Officially Starts Filming – New Cast and Dramatic Plot Revealed

After months of waiting, Netflix has finally confirmed that Virgin River Season 7 has officially started filming in March 2025 in British Columbia, Canada. This is the highly anticipated sequel, marking a new turning point in the journey of the residents of this beloved small town.

Filming Begins

According to information from Netflix and reputable news sites, the production team has returned to the fictional town of Virgin River to film 10 new episodes. Season 7 is expected to finish filming by the end of summer and air in the first half of 2026, or possibly earlier if post-production is completed quickly.

Patrick Sean Smith – executive producer and screenwriter – revealed that this season will focus on Mel and Jack’s married life, while expanding new storylines full of drama and surprises.

Two New Characters To Watch

Season 7 will welcome two new characters, expected to bring new winds, while also disrupting the peaceful life that has been there:

Sara Canning plays Victoria, a former police officer who is now working in the state medical investigation industry. Her appearance in town will cause a confrontation with Dr. Doc’s clinic, when there are doubts related to his professional activities.

Cody Kearsley (who participated in Riverdale) plays Clay, a strong rodeo cowboy, on a journey to find his lost sister. Clay is described as a person full of hurt and mystery, most likely to have connections with old characters like Preacher or Brie.

A New Season

Season 7 not only continues the inherent stories of love and loss, but also delves into the transformation of the entire town of Virgin River. Themes such as faith, career choices, legacy, and family will be explored more. The town is no longer a “calm in the storm” but is facing a wave of change both internally and externally.

Alexandra Breckenridge Reveals Mel’s New Life in Season 7 – Will She Return to Medicine?

Leading actress Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel Monroe in Virgin River, sent fans into a frenzy when she shared a suggestive behind-the-scenes video on her personal Instagram in early June 2025. In the video, she is wearing a blue medical scrub – a sign that Mel will return to medical work after taking a break in seasons 5 and 6.

Is Mel Returning to Work at the Clinic?

In previous seasons, Mel had taken a break from her job as a midwife after losing a pregnancy and decided to prioritize her family. However, Alexandra’s new look has led many to believe that Mel is returning to medical work – perhaps assisting in childbirth or taking over Doc’s position.

Previously, Doc Mullins was gradually stepping down due to health issues, and Cameron Hayek was not yet fully trusted by the people. Mel – with her experience and dedication – could become a central factor in keeping the clinic running effectively.

Love and Career: A Delicate Balance

Aside from her career, Mel’s relationship with Jack was also a focus of season 7. The couple went through a lot of loss and finally lived together with their first child. However, Mel’s return to medical work could cause conflict, especially when both are focusing on raising their daughter and planning their wedding.

Alexandra once revealed in an interview that:

“Mel is a hard worker, loves her job, but now she’s also a mother. She has to learn to balance that.”

Release Date Still Under wraps

Currently, Netflix has not announced an official release date for Season 7. However, with the current filming progress, it is likely that the film will be released in late 2025 or early 2026. Fans expect this season to be both heartwarming and dramatic, bringing Mel – and the entire town of Virgin River – into a real adulthood.
