We know 51’s new floater Jack Damon has a secret and he also has quite an interest in Severide, so could this be because he’s actually Severide’s son?
Chicago Fire’s latest episode introduced the newest addition to the 51 team as Michael Bradway made his debut in the role of Jack Damon, the latest floater coming to 51 following Gibson’s departure.
From the moment we meet him, he expresses how excited he is to be joining the 51 team and he seems to be a bit of a fanboy when it comes to Severide and Kidd. After returning from a call, Kidd notices Damon admiring the photos in the hallway and he asks her about one of Severide. She goes on to tell him the story behind the photo, but he ends up being the one to surprise her as he tells her about how he read about some of Severide’s various saves as well as some of Kidd’s.
When Kidd jokes that he seems to know a lot about them, Damon says that he took a class with Severide at the academy and was inspired by the way he talked about 51. This seemed innocent enough as Severide and Kidd have both been around in the CFD for a bit and made plenty of headlines with their heroic moments, and if he had gone through Severide’s class we could understand him being impressed and inspired by him.
However, it seems Damon has a secret and isn’t who we thought he was.
Chicago Fire teases Damon is lying to Kidd and Severide
Damon told Kidd that he attended one of Severide’s classes at the academy, but when Kidd mentions this to Severide he seems confused saying he didn’t remember ever seeing him in one of his classes. Severide brushes it off saying he did teach a lot of candidates and that definitely sent up some red flags, but it was the conversation that Ritter overhear that had alarm bells ringing.
As Ritter is leaving 51 after their shift ended, he overhears Damon on a call having quite an interesting conversation with an unknown individual.
“That isn’t the only reason why I’m here,” Damon told the person on the other line before adding, “No, nobody here knows and I’ll get it that way for as long as I want.”
Clearly, Damon has a secret that he’s keeping from everyone but could that secret be a familiar connection? Hear us out.
The Severide we know today is a happily married man, but he was once a cocky young firefighter who was known for flash-in-the-pan flings. Who’s to say that one of those flings didn’t result in an unexpected pregnancy which Severide never knew about?
We don’t know the exact ages of the characters, but Damon looks to be in his early twenties which means the storyline could be plausible as Severide is likely in his early forties. Given how much of a playboy Severide was back in the day, the storyline would check with his background and it would also explain why Damon seems to be interested in learning more about Severide and idolizes him in a sense.

If he found out Severide was his dad, it would make sense that he would be inspired to become a firefighter and then want to meet Severide. Getting placed at 51 would give him the opportunity to get to see Severide in action and get to know him, as well as Kidd, without having to tell anyone his secret – that secret being that he’s Severide’s son.
This would track with the conversation Ritter overheard and perhaps the person on the other end of the line was Damon’s mom expressing concerns over Damon making a point to join 51 in order to meet his father.
That would definitely be an unexpected twist and one that would test Severide and Kidd in a new and unexpected way. It would be quite interesting to see how a revelation such as that would impact their lives and what it could mean for Damon’s future at 51.
