Wait, WHAT?! Nathan Fillion’s Big ‘Rookie’ Reveal Has Fans Shook

Guess what The Rookie fans? It looks like we’ll be staying at LAPD Mid-Wilshire a little bit longer.

As the hit ABC drama continues to air season 7 episodes on Tuesday nights, fans of the long-running series have been desperate to know if The Rookie is coming back for season 8. Well, the network decided they’d let folks in to some incredible news about the future of The Rookie — and it looks like our favorite police officers will officially be back on the air for season 8 in the fall of 2025.

The big reveal was first made with a video on The Rookie’s official Instagram on April 3, and it didn’t take long for Nathan Fillion (who plays John Nolan) to make a comment about an all-new season. As he shared a repost of the snippet on his own Instagram, he couldn’t help but express his gratitude for how dedicated the viewers are to seeing the story of The Rookie continue to unfold.

“I’ve been around long enough to know how truly challenging and rare it is to have a long running show,” he penned in an emotional caption. “Thank you all for sticking around for these 7 seasons — it’s because of you that we are announcing season 8!! Congratulations to @alexihawley and the wonderful team that puts this show together. I am so very proud to work alongside all of you. Let’s do this!”

“Crazy to see how much this show has grown! Well deserved! So excited for Season 8 👏🏼,” one person wrote. “The only good thing in my life [for real]. SO EXCITED AHH,” another exclaimed. “Best cast ever! We love you Nathan ❤️,” a different follower added.

Now this is the perfect way to end an incredible run this season on The Rookie. After all, season 7 of the procedural drama is still airing — and there are still many stories to tell with this group of first responders.

As for what fans can expect from the rest of The Rookie season 7, an official press release states there may be more trouble in paradise for Nolan and his wife Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan). In the April 8 episode (titled “Three Billboards”), Nolan and Bailey take time to figure out if they’re prepared for the idea of adoption. Elsewhere, LAPD Mid-Wilshire is busy investigating a car bombing, while the cops are busy trying to figure out who is responsible for blasting anti-LAPD billboards all throughout L.A.

Needless to say, there’s a lot more in store for The Rookie — and we can’t wait!
