After learning of Newton’s younger days as the member of a boy band, Coughlan brings a bit of Newton’s former pop glory to a ballroom dance.
Whether you already know it or not, it’s worth reminding Bridgerton fans — be they longstanding Bridgerbuffs or the newly obsessed — that as swoon-worthy as Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, already is, he’s actually been the object of obsession for quite some time. And why is that? Well, that’s because Newton was the founding member of … a boy band.
That’s right. Back in 2012, Newton, along with some of his schoolmates with whom he attended performing arts school the BRIT School, formed South4, a Sussex quartet whose debut single was called — drumroll — “Cougar Town.” Here’s a little taste:
Something else you might not know about Newton: He and castmate Nicola Coughlan, our Penelope Featherington, love to play pranks on each other on the set of Bridgerton. And recently, these two little facts about Bridgerton season three’s friends-to-lovers leads came together for an absolutely hilarious moment when Coughlan, in the middle of filming a tense ballroom scene, decided to prank Newton.
In the clip above, as Coughlan and Newton prepare to film a Jack Murphy-choreographed dance sequence during a ball, Coughlan — along with episode director Andrew Ahn and the background dancers, who were all in on the prank — decided to relive Newton’s boy-band glory days, unbeknownst, of course, to Newton.
