Watch Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson Bring Bridgerton Season 4’s Romance to Life with a Dramatic Reading

It seems that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) is finally set to meet his match! Yerin Ha, known for her role in Halo, has been cast as Sophie Baek — the mysterious “Lady in Silver” and Benedict’s love interest in Bridgerton Season 4. Sophie, a maid with a complex past and hidden depths, is precisely the kind of character who could capture an artist like Benedict’s heart.

“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles to overcome,” Ha shared with Tudum after a full day of Bridgerton rehearsals. “There’s always this tension between her social status and her hidden feelings for Benedict.”

Unlike the debutantes who frequent the Bridgerton social circle, Sophie’s life has been marked by hardship. Forced to work for a ruthless employer in the ton, Sophie manages to persevere, always finding a way to rise above her circumstances. Her world changes entirely when she slips into Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball, donning a mask that will change her fate — and lead her to Benedict.

Fans of Julia Quinn’s novels will recognize this storyline from An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book in the series and inspiration for Season 4. To build anticipation, Thompson and Ha recently performed a dramatic reading from this iconic novel, previewing the chemistry between their characters and setting the stage for the masquerade ball.

In the clip, Ha and Thompson hint at their upcoming costumes and give fans a peek into the intricate costume work behind the scenes. “There’s an incredible team working tirelessly on every detail,” Ha said, praising the Bridgerton costume team.

So, who exactly is Sophie Baek?

Sophie is a deeply layered character who meets Benedict at a masquerade where guests can shed their identities — or put on new ones. “There’s this theme with masks that runs through all my audition scenes,” Ha noted. “When does Sophie hide behind her emotions, and when does she let her true self show?”

Naturally, a Bridgerton masquerade wouldn’t be complete without dancing. Ha and Thompson have been practicing their steps, with Thompson jokingly admitting, “I’ve only stepped on Yerin’s toes once so far!” Ha described the rehearsals as “very special and vulnerable,” explaining that the dances serve as an emotional extension for their characters.

As filming for Bridgerton Season 4 continues, fans can expect plenty of passion, romance, and elegance from Sophie and Benedict’s story — all set against the signature glamor and drama of the Bridgerton world.
