Wedding Bells? The Rookie Leaked Photo Spoils This Couple’s Fate
We’ve been more than ready for The Rookie Season 6 to return, especially to learn about the fate of John Nolan and Bailey Nune’s relationship after their engagement in Season 5. Do John Nolan and Bailey Nune get married? See the potential Season 6 spoiler below.
The Rookie is ABC’s police procedural drama following John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a middle-aged, recently divorced man from Pennsylvania who, after helping police officers stop a bank robbery in his hometown, moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Nolan, the oldest rookie with the LAPD, is promoted to a training officer later in the series.
Meanwhile, Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan) is an LAFD firefighter and Nolan’s love interest who joined The Rookie in Season 3. After starting as a recurring character, Nune became part of the main cast in the second half of Season 4 as things began to heat up between her and Nolan.
Nolan and Nune first crossed paths in the Season 4 finale, “Threshold,” when she was locked out of the house while dog-sitting for John’s neighbors. They attended Angela Lopez and Wesley Evers’ wedding together, but the event was ultimately called off so Nolan could rescue Lopez. In Season 4, Nolan and Nune’s relationship was moving forward (but not without controversy). Who could forget when Jason Wyler revealed that he was Bailey’s ex-husband just as Nolan was about to propose? (Ouch!)
Ultimately, it was Nune who popped the question to Nolan in Season 5 (only after almost getting killed by infamous serial killer Rosalind Dyer). Nolan said yes, and they’ve been engaged since Season 5, Episode 5, “The Choice.” There have only been a few details surrounding the couple’s upcoming nuptials. However, newly leaked photos of the couple on set hint that there’s a good chance they tie the knot in Season 6.
On Dec. 19, Just Jared released new photos of Fillion and Dewan filming the sixth season of The Rookie, which was delayed to 2024 due to the now-resolved SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
In the photos, their characters Nolan and Bailey are on a beach in Malibu, Calif., showing a lot of PDA (kissing, hand holding, etc.). There’s a chance that the couple’s romantic seaside stroll is taking place during their honeymoon. If this is the case, they may have tied the knot sometime in Season 6.
But in true The Rookie fashion, nothing’s ever just rainbows and butterflies. Just Jared also reported that during the scene, the happy couple comes across what appears to be a dead body on the beach wrapped in seaweed. (So whatever romantic excursion they’re on is about to get cut short.)
As for what we know about Season 6, Eric Winter (who plays training officer Tim Bradford) updated fans on social media on November 9. Not long after the strikes ended, The Rookie creator Alexi Hawley posted a photo of the season 6 premiere script on X (formerly known as Twitter). Winter then reposted the photo, writing in his caption: “🔥🔥🔥🔥 let’s go @therookie fam! #therookie.”
The entire cast has been confirmed to return for the next installment, including Fillion, Nune, and Winter, as well as Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey, and Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper. Kristian Bruun will also join the Season 6 cast as the new villain — the person who masterminded the attacks in the Season 5 finale. The only cast member who has yet to be confirmed is Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen, as his character’s fate is still unknown after he was gunned down by assailants in the Season 5 finale.
