Blue Bloods was a shockingly enduring series for a serial drama on a broadcast network, running for 14 seasons on CBS, a mark only a few similar shows ever reach. But even though Blue Bloods was canceled, its story is not done entirely. Coming this fall is Boston Blue, a new spin-off that takes exactly one main cast member from the original series, Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan, and transplants him to Wahlberg’s preferred stomping grounds of Boston.
As a result, this fall will bring us a continuation of the Reagan family saga through the eyes of Danny Reagan as he acclimates to a new town and becomes involved with a whole new kind of “blue blood” family.
Here’s what we know so far about Boston Blue.
Fall TV schedules:

Boston Blue series premiere date
Blue Bloods did well on Friday night for almost its entire run, and Boston Blue will try to pull the same trick when it premieres on CBS on Oct.17 at 10/9c, after Fire Country and its new spin-off Sheriff Country. As usual with CBS shows, each episode will pop up on the Paramount+ streaming service the next morning.
Boston Blue teaser
While we don’t really have a proper teaser for Boston Blue just yet, CBS did drop this very short clip narrated by Donnie Wahlberg. It’s the best we got right now, but we’ll be sure to update this space when we get something better.
What is Boston Blue about?
Like Blue Bloods before it, Boston Blue will be a combination police procedural and family drama. But even though Danny Reagan is leaving almost his entire family behind in New York and joining the Boston Police Department, Boston Blue won’t lose that family focus at all — there’s just going to be a new family at the center of it.
Enter Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, a Baptist minister and patriarch of a local cop family, which includes his daughter Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), a local district attorney, along with his grandkids Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Jonah (Marcus Scribner), and his step-granddaughter Sarah (Maggie Lawson), who are all cops of various rank.
But it’s Lena who will serve as the “main character” of the bunch, since she’ll be Danny’s new partner. Most of the series will revolve around the two of them.
We said above that Danny was leaving behind “almost” his entire family, and that’s because one of them is actually coming with: Sean Reagan. But he’ll look a lot different on Boston Blue, as actor Andrew Terraciano has been replaced with Mika Amonsen for the spin-off.
Who is in the Boston Blue cast?
Wahlberg is the big name here, reprising his role as Blue Bloods’ Danny Reagan. Danny’s son Sean will also be on the show, but he will be played by new actor Mika Amonson after being played by Andrew Terraciano in Blue Bloods.
Ernie Hudson, Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, and Marcus Scribner will play the Silver clan, a Boston-based cop family. Martin-Green’s Lena Silver will be Danny’s new partner, and a main character in the series.
Blue Bloods’ Bridget Moynahan will show up for a guest appearance as Danny’s sister Erin Reagan in the premiere episode, reports Deadline. Moynahan will also direct an episode of the season.
