The trauma surgeon played by Dominic Rains came to Gaffney with plenty of skills, and a lot of secrets.
Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) is one of the beating hearts of Chicago Med.
As a surgeon at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, he has saved the day more times than we can count, and he’s also developed plenty of strong ties with his coworkers. But, from his daughter who died at a young age to his unmentioned past as an immigrant, the hard-partying doctor was always more than he let on.
Crockett is a powerhouse in the operation room, but beneath his medical prowess, he’s a compelling character with a fascinating backstory.
When did Dr. Crockett Marcel first appear on Chicago Med?
Crockett’s first official appearance at Gaffney was in Season 5, Episode 1 (“Never Going Back to Normal”). The incoming trauma surgeon didn’t make great first impressions with everyone, though: In Episode 3 (“In the Valley of the Shadows”), he and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) worked on their first case together and butted heads over the treatment plan.
In Episode 5 (“Got a Friend in Me”) Crockett also argued with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) over whether or not to perform surgery on a patient, making that relationship also difficult.
What happened to Dr. Crockett Marcel before Chicago Med?
In Season 6, Episode 6 (“Don’t Want to Face This Now”), Crockett revealed that he’d had a daughter, Harper, who’d died at a very young age.
“I lost my daughter to Leukemia, about 10 years ago,” he said. “Just a few months after her first birthday.”
In Season 6, Episode 10 (“So Many Things We’ve Kept Buried”), he spoke to a patient in Farsi and talked about his childhood.
“My family moved here when I was two, we spoke Farsi at home,” he explained. He later said that his birth name was Darioush Jahanbani, but his parents had changed their last name when the family moved to New Orleans so that he would fit in. The family patriarch, he said, chose “Crockett” as a first name for his son because he loved the show Miami Vice and its protagonist Sonny Crockett.
What happened between Dr. Crockett Marcel and Dr. Natalie Manning on Chicago Med?
A major part of Marcel’s storyline in Season 6 was his relationship with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto). The two originally began dating in secret amid the chaos of the pandemic.
But, in Episode 9 (“For the Want of a Nail”), Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) was upset that Dr. Manning had gone to Dr. Marcel for a second opinion, undermining Archer’s work on the case. He threatened to reveal their intimate relationship, and Dr. Manning told him, “We are professional colleagues, that’s all you should be concerned about.”
Throughout the season, Marcel began helping Manning with her mother’s heart disease after Manning introduced the pair in Season 6, Episode 11 (“Letting Go Only to Come Together”). But Manning’s mother’s illness tore their relationship apart after Manning lied to Marcel about sneaking an untested drug into her mother’s treatment.
At the beginning of Season 7, Manning departed Chicago for her hometown of Seattle.
What happened between Dr. Crockett Marcel and Dr. Pamela Blake on Chicago Med?
In Season 7, the surgical team got a new leader, Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty), and she began dating Crockett while acting as his mentor in transplant surgery techniques.
However, the relationship took a serious turn in the Season 7 finale (“And Now We Come to the End”) after Blake fell ill and put Crockett in charge of making decisions for her during a major surgery she needed.
He chose a surgical path that would save her life but risk the future use of her hands. When she woke up after the surgery, she was devastated by what this would mean for her future in surgery and cut him off for his decision.
In the Season 8 premiere (“How Do You Begin to Count the Losses”), Blake left the hospital and emptied out her apartment, leaving Chicago — and Crockett — behind.
Is Dr. Crockett Marcel leaving Chicago after Season 9 finale?
Throughout Season 9 of Med, Crockett was doing great but, toward the end of the season, there was one patient who he couldn’t help — and Crockett was left downright devastated.
It began after Crockett had to deny a young boy a liver transplant due to the child developing an infection just before the surgery. It was the safest choice but, without the transplant, the kid was also doomed. The child’s father was heartbroken and instantly blamed Crockett, who was rattled by the tough-but-necessary call.
In Med‘s Season 9 finale (“I Think I Know You, But Do I Really?”), Crockett learned that the boy had died as a result of not getting the transplant and the father had subsequently died by suicide. Crockett was shell-shocked by the news and spent the rest of his shift in a aze. Eventually, Crockett pulled himself off a surgery, getting the attention of Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson). After hearing the update, Goodwin told Crockett to take all the time he needed.
Nurse Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) checked up on Crockett later on, at which point he opened up about why the boy’s death rocked him so hard: His daughter Harper was due to throwing himself into his work. After hearing about the boy’s death, it dawned on Crockett that he’d never allowed himself time to fully grieve his daughter’s death.
