What’s Happened to Jake Lockett’s Carver on Chicago Fire Season 13?

“[Carver’s] definitely a little more conflicted this season,” Lockett said.

The drama has been white-hot on Chicago Fire Season 13, particularly surrounding Sam Carver, played by Jake Lockett.

Carver’s been going through it this season. Just as fans were obsessing over the firefighter’s Season 12 romance with Paramedic Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), their disheartening breakup inspired Carver to leave Chicago for a little while. Once Carver returned in Season 13, his colleagues soon realized that he’d developed an alcohol problem that began jeopardizing his ability to be a productive firefighter or reliable friend around Firehouse 51. Carver has been doing his best to clean up his act, but he hasn’t had much luck in AA meetings. As Carver continued to run from his problems, his inner demons reemerged.

It’s been a rollercoaster road to recovery for Carver, and after the pressure of avoiding alcohol reached a fever pitch, he realized that taking some time for himself was the best move. After leaving a thoughtful note in Violet’s locker, Carver dismissed himself temporarily from the firehouse.

So, when will Carver return to Firehouse 51, and what does Lockett have to say about Carver’s Season 13 storyline? Read on to learn what’s up with Carver this season.

Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) appears in Season 13 Episode 6 of Chicago Fire.

Is Sam Carver coming back to Chicago Fire?

Carver will return to the Firehouse 51 action soon, but he’s taking some time to recover after a relapse. After opening up about his challenges and talking it over with his Lieutenant, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Carver left on furlough with her full support.

Carver is currently in rehab, and based on Stella’s report to a concerned Violet, he’ll be absent from Firehouse 51 until he is ready to be back on his feet. Everyone is happy to see Carver prioritize his recovery, but his Firehouse 51 friends certainly miss him.

Jake Lockett on Carver’s Season 13 drama on Chicago Fire

Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) appears in Season 13 Episode 6 of Chicago Fire.

During Fire‘s March 27 episode — Season 13, Episode 16 (“In the Rubble”) — viewers saw Violet writing a letter for Carver as she processed some of the drama that’s been happening around Firehouse 51. Violet misses her friend, simply put. Without him at the station, she’s been a tad adrift. Despite writing a beautiful letter rooted in honesty and vulnerability, Violet ultimately decided not to send it to avoid disruption in Carver’s progress.

“[Carver’s] definitely a little more conflicted this season,” Lockett told TV Line. “Everything in the past seasons, he’s been very like, ‘Hey, this is where I’m at.’ This season, he’s a little bit more in conflict not only personally, but like, interpersonally with other people in the firehouse, and I think that’s forced him inward again, and that’s what we’re dealing with.”
